I’m the first one to say that 95% of the shite with Covid was overblown if not an outright scam. That being said the last place I would want somebody even with a head cold is the NICU.

Its not just their kids that the doctors are concerned with either.

wouldn’t want any respiratory virus around my baby in the damn NICU dude.

The baby's already exposed. Depriving it of mother's care and nurturing will be more harmful than than good now.

Those “professionals” understand infants 6 weeks premature, without fully developed lungs, delivered via surgery are the definition of at risk.

My Son was born 6 weeks premature and stayed in the NICU for almost a month. Luckily they said his lungs were good but had him hooked up for a couple of days. Biggest reason he stayed in there was that he was under weight and wanted him to gain a certain weight and make sure he was capable of eating from a bottle or the nip.

Yeah. No need to expose any type of sickness there. Some of those babies are in bad shape. It broke my heart going in there.

Are you asking why two people with Covid aren’t allowed to go into a NICU area full of babies being kept alive with a variety of machines?

truth social says baby can lick as many doorknobs as he wants!

Well, I mean, he can. He’ll be sick as a dog most of the time, but damn near invincible if he makes it to his preteen years.

We currently screen every single visitor that comes to our NICU. Nurses fill out a form with the visitor information and screening for symptoms and it’s part of the patient’s chart. If you have even a cough you are not entering the NICU to visit right now. Wayyy too many respiratory illnesses going on and we don’t want to risk an RSV outbreak in the NICU (that can easily kill premature babies).

With COVID…..we don’t let them visit if they were around someone positive until a set quarantine time period has passed (14 days since the last contact with the positive person). Again…,it’s the NICU, they have practically no immune systems yet and we don’t want babies getting sick.

We had family recently lie about not having respiratory symptoms….they ended up getting their baby sick and also the baby next to them sick as well (our NICU is a giant room with no real rooms separating the babies).

No.

I'm saying it's fricking insane to keep two parents, who have been trying to have a child for 10 years, from looking through a window at their daughter for the first 10-14 days of her life.

If they didn't do anything and the baby caught it and died then people would be complaining about how the hospital didn't do enough.. They knew the mother tested positive and they still let the baby be around the mother and didn't even monitor the situation.

Seriously dude, some of you have lost all common sense.

They have also informed them that the mother will not be allowed to see the baby until December 10th and the father won't be able to see her until the 14th.

I wonder if we could just let the government raise the kid for a few years just to be safe

I legitimately don’t know the answer to this question but what was the protocol before March of 2020 with healthy mothers showing no symptoms who test negative for respiratory viruses visiting their children in the NICU before 14 days?

People are morons. They probably thought it was a stupid rule and that they wouldn't spread anything. Its a shame they put babies at risk.. selfish assholes

NICUs are understandably hardcore about this stuff. My little brother was in it for two months in the 90s and if my mom or dad showed any sign of sickness they couldn’t go see him.
