They pop up this time of year but I’m not sure why they’re only in my back yard and not everywhere else.

They are reddish brown and stink when they start to decompose. At this stage, they appear to “melt” and liquify. The whole back yard fills up with this horrible stench that lasts for weeks.

What kind of mushrooms are these and is there anything I can do to get rid of them?

Eat them and then you won't be worred about it. You'll be stoned or dead.

Cadaver mushrooms, you have a dead body in your backyard.

It sounds like there are dead Smurfs decomposing inside those shrooms.

You might could apply some fungicide to your yard, but they grow on decomposing material like a stump or mulch. Removing those materials is a start. I've always wanted to pick one and put it in the grill of my coworkers car.

Stinky squid mushroom. I've had these pop up before and it was pretty bad.

Did this exact thing to my buddy on a hunting trip. The results were great, and it was easy to clean up. All in all, good fun.

You have a dog? If so....might want to remove them before the dog gets curious and eats them.

I learned the hard way on a camping trip just how bad wild mushrooms can be if a dog eats them(and apparently wild mushrooms taste good to dogs). Our lab mix ended up in the animal hospital for a couple days getting iv fluids and charcoal to fight the poison (otherwise he would have died).

As said you can apply a fungicide, but you probably just need to adjust your sprinkler system. Generally yard mushrooms are from your grass staying too wet, you are watering at night and need to water later in the night closer to sun up. Or there's not enough sun in the day to dry your yard out.

Mushrooms like it dark and moist. Try and remove the moisture.

You've told us how they smell, but not how they taste.

I got them too. Ran over one with the lawnmower and the smell that came from it was gag worthy
