And where does that electricity come from?

In the case of the generator...it comes from the generator

As far as the grid goes, that's obviously a mix of different things

Are you 12 or something? How do you not know this?

I've driven one a bunch. I had for a week in Denver for work. They're fine. Tesla makes a nice car. I don't want an electric car. It doesn't fit my needs. After Ida last year I was running from the Nola area to Mississippi daily hauling shite back and forth. I could make a few runs, fill up on the way back to my house and do it all over again. It would've a giant pain in the arse to have to sit around and wait for a vehicle capable of doing that to charge. No EV on the market would be good for that. Nor can any of them tow my boat and trash trailer.

You like your EV, fine, but leave it at that. It is in no way a better option for everyone.

If this board could get to this point and respond this way we wouldn't have these redundant threads. It most certainly is not for everyone. For me, it would have benefited me after Ida as sitting in a gas line was a lot of wasted time

quote:

I acknowledge the disadvantages all the time. Everybody knows that range and charge times are disadvantages. But here on TD, which is the only place I talk about this stuff, the EV threads are very nearly 100% started as anti-EV propaganda. So if "a balanced picture" is what you want, that's what I'm here for - to balance these threads.

Nail on head. Throw in that us pro-EV posters are against government mandates and wouldn't rather have the technology adopted organically

Either the grid or a backup generator. Why do you ask?
And where does that electricity come from?
If from the grid, coal, natgas, nuclear, solar, wind, etc. If from a generator, usually diesel or natgas, or possibly gasoline or propane. Why do you ask?

These are very basic questions, and I suspect that the "gotcha" attempt that is coming has already been tried in this thread and my response is the same: who gives a frick? The point is a diverse set of possible energy sources improves the likelihood that at least one of them will be available. And especially since that set of sources includes the fuel that the alternatives requires, you're going to have a hard time arguing that gasoline is ever easier to source than electricity.

People want cars that work well and that are convenient. EVs are that.
No issue with that whatsoever. To each their own.

Been driving Chevy Bolt EV 2 years. As long time Hatchback lover & SUV hater has been my favorite car, not to mention my old house cannot fit anything bigger in my little 1 car garage it was my pick. Don't understand the crazy hate of EVs they are amazing but not for everybody. I have 2.6 mile commute from Northern Kentucky to Downtown Cincinnati office. 22 Traffic lights maybe top speed around 40mph. Great Zip, so smooth, Fun to drive. No Gas stations, no oil changes. Charge at home have never used a public recharger yet. Instant torque, regenerative braking. Last thing I care about in driving EV is any Environmental or Political stuff. It just drives great and best for my lifestyle.

That is very close to the truth. Actually my estimate might have been too conservative.

The only real issue is that it’s a staged picture that most likely wouldn't even work. The Tesla needs a stable frequency that most Harbor Freight shite box generators can’t produce.

Some folks think it's hi-fricking-larious that an EV can be powered by the same fuel as an ICE vehicle if necessary. That's a real knee-slapper, right?
