This is the first I've heard of someone calling anything New York subtle.
There’s the New York Aesthetic which you know what you’re getting. I don’t find New York to be all that overwhelming compared to some of the other great international cities. New York I can process, but Hong Kong just feels a bit contrived, but it’s gorgeous and takes you in waves. You can drop me off just about anywhere in New York, and I’ll have some sort of bearings on me.

That was built on the back of slaves. Dubai is not one of the great cities in the world. Fakest place on Earth built on skulls of people there against their wills.

Who is “they“. Just because a few people want to go back to colonial rule doesn’t mean that the millions who live in Hong Kong want to revert to a failed colonial has been.

Shanghai certainly has potential to be the class of the world class cities, but its smog problem makes Mexico City seem like San Diego.
It's not always that bad. Beijing, on the other hand, always sucks.
But, you are correct, China certainly has issues controlling smog.

Shanghai has the sea where it blows away pretty quickly. Beijing is in the middle of a giant valley on the edge of a desert where it settles. Rain is the only thing that takes the smog away. Beijing is a perfect place to build a fortress, but a terrible place for a city in the modern era.

Our skyscrapers as so bland and boring compared to foreign countries

I have been to all cities referenced...even Bogalusa.
Shanghai at night has no comparison. I have spent 6 nights on the Bund looking at it (I love NYC, but Shanghai at night)
Daytime is Nyc, but barely over hong kong.

You do realize labor come here to work because there is no work at home, right? Yea it’s corrupt, like anywhere else, but wages that the market demands are paid. Jesus...

It’s not open labor. The first thing that happens when the workers arrive is their passports are taken. They have no free will once they arrive.
