The big deal with these is that mint cards are rare. Basic supply and demand. It reminds me of when i sent Wolverine #1 to get graded. The company gives me a call to tell me they creased it and would be paying for someone to fix it. Dude told me he would grade 5 other comics at no charge. The reason being is that comic is the one they grade the most and they don't gave may 8+s coming through and he thought it would grade 9+.

If I had to guess, I think a whole bunch of these could be near mint. Don't think I have any big sports names though.
I found them last year in an old arse cigar box sitting in the closet.
All are 1977-1981

Topps Chrome and Bowman Chrome are nice but a little expensive.

Is this at the holiday inn convention center in 2021? I was there

I’d go through and make sure there aren’t any Magic the Gathering cards in it; those could be worth $Money.

Just so you're grounded - a PSA 7 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson is about $100. Ungraded starts at half that.
So - IF you had a big name from that time frame, and that SOB looks damn near perfect to the naked eye, then maybe you have something valuable.
Otherwise, you have some 50 year baseball cards - which are still cool, but likely not valuable.

It looks like there's a few of us who have a decent enough idea to give you some idea on grades. Depending on the year and condition getting the cards graded could be worth the cost or you might be throwing away money on grading fees. If you want to post pictures of a few in various conditions (corners sharp/fuzzy, off centered/centered, etc.) we could give you a more informed opinion about what to look at for all of the cards.
Just to add one thing about ebay comps. You need to go into filter and tick the "sold items" box. That is the figure you should base the value. I did a big deal with a local shop (paid roughly 70% of comps) before The National last month. I've shifted from investing in cards (which just sit in a gun safe) to buying more memorabilia as I remodel one of our rooms into a small sports museum.

I pulled a card I sold for $1,900 on Ebay from a $24 box of wrestling cards I bought for my son. It almost ended up being carried around in a plastic bag that he puts them in.

My son got some Topps cards from a party and one of the cards was numbered in gold 256/299. What exactly does this mean? All other cards had normal black bold numbers.
Thanks
Thanks

It's a parallel. There are many colors of varying quantities (numbers) of each.
Put "Topps (Player Name) 299" into eBay to get an idea of what you have.

This. To even further the search term, add the year to the beginning of the search.
The back of the card, towards the bottom, while have something like "2020 The Topps Company Inc"

the hat store “Lids” sells a bunch of topps brands. They carry the more expensive and premium hobby boxes as well as blasters and smaller packs.
"Lids" as in the mall store.....Has HOBBY boxes? I would expect retail boxes/blasters like Target has, but not the HOBBY boxes.
