if you enjoy what you do and where/who you work with, then don’t bolt.

i’m not as financially secure as i’d like to be at my age, but. had a GREAT work/life balance when my kids were young.
they never had all the best of the best brand names, but they always had anything they ever needed in life and i was there in person for all the good shite about raising kids (school functions, little league stuff, etc).

sure i’m having to put in more time effort now that they’re out the house, but i wouldn’t trade that time when they were younger for anything.

Is that $7,000 missing a year really bothering you? That $175 a paycheck?

Raises compound over time. If you do the math on just a 2% yearly raise over decades it would blow your mind. Not to mention that bonuses and 401k matches are also typically percentages of salary.

The “pay cap” that doesn’t include cost of living at a minimum is horseshite and a factor in brain drain and lack of loyalty to any company

I'm sure you aren't hurting if you hit your cap as an engineer. Money isn't everything baw you don't always have to make more and more if you're happy

Switch jobs in a bad economy bc of greed and be the first one out during layoffs.

Or subtle brag tread to attract a homo lover on the OT?

It’s not that. It’s that inflation happens whether you believe it or not. Your salary stuck at the same level has less and less purchasing power over the years.

Depends on age and job. I would have an extremely difficult time working at a place that I no longer received raises at.

The whole salary cap makes zero sense to me. If you are worth more to your boss, you should explain to them that you are worth more and are leaving to go get it. If you truly are worth more, then he will pay you to keep you.

If you work at a place where your boss doesn’t have that kind of juice, you should leave and go somewhere where they can. If he tells you to kick rocks, you will know that you really aren’t worth what they were paying to begin with.

In my experience, an engineer in his 20’s ain’t worth 200k to start with. I obviously don’t know your exact role, but engineers are like accountants, a necessary evil, and most of the time wrong in my field.

The real question you should be asking is why you aren’t promotable?

His manager knew this situation was coming months out, and could have fixed it, and didn't. Because mgr doesn't give a shite about retention.

You’re only capped in your current position. There’s definitely places for you to promote into if you were promotable. Figure out why they don’t want to promote you

I've never heard of this in my company. There's always a higher pay band. Maybe they have to apply a Sr. Title. Maybe it's a title change but same basic work scope. But never heard of anyone maxing out. Granted, if you don't have potential to continually advance, you are at risk of layoffs during downturns (o&g). So most people who've been around a while are making small moves here in there.

Nothing wrong with that, but you have to expect to hit a ceiling at some point if you don’t desire to advance. Otherwise the company can easily get someone making a lot less than you to come in and do the same job.
