I read one account that the Indian scouts attached to Custer's unit knew what was about to happen and they were getting ready to die. Custer, frustrated with their pessimism released them to join a different unit and as they were riding away, they heard G. Custer say something to the effect of "lets hurry up and get this done so we won't be late for dinner..."
This account is unverified but the Scouts who survived reported it....
