Anyone have an armchair hypothesis as to why? Seems to be puzzling because Hispanics have lower incomes, and income is a strong predictor of life expectancy

Which group of hispanics, the ones who work hard every day and have no body fat or the ones who get a govt check from a govt they don't pay taxes to?

There's a big thing in public health referred to as the Hispanic paradox. They have better health outcomes across a range of outcomes, even though they have higher poverty. In general, this effect seems to be strongest among the foreign born, and tends to recede in successive generations. There's a lot of interesting literature into it. Also some differences between types of Hispanics. For example, some studies have found this for Mexicans but not Puerto Ricans.

People with strong family support systems fare better with illness. This would explain why the effect diminishes with assimilation.

Beans, rice and building roofs must be good for your health?
I love Hispanics. Hardest working, most family oriented people I know.

I do too. I still don't want them flooding in our country illegally though.

Natural selection. The weak ones did not make it past the border.
