What would the OT do? Most amicable way to fire? I'm headed to the store to work with him this morning and will share more details as I can.
Give him tasks you know he will fail at then base your firing off of that. While not perfect, if he's seeing that he failed as why he's being let go then that's likely to be more palatable to him than "you're batshit crazy".

2. How can you be this dumb and run a business? I ask myself that question everyday. We'll see how long it goes! Just made 5 years. Honestly these situations make it less and less worth it.
I think running a business and being profitable is a strength different from hiring and evaluating personnel.
In fact, I'd reckon that running a business is such a daunting venture there needs to be a balance of caution with delusional optimism that everything will work out. That doesn't lend itself well to hiring, where everyone that comes through the door needs to be guilty until proven innocent.

Brother, if you do something this stupid, I’m not sure you can even tie your shoes, much less complete a complex task.

As time passes his story and commitment to the bit has deepened to a point of extreme concern. He's texted tirades about losing children in the OR, about being late due to waiting for patients to wake up and more. He also claims to be a Marine and an NOPD vet. Based on amateur sleuth research I'm 99% certain he's not a doctor and I also question the veracity of anything else he's told me.
Dying laughing at this

I personally think it's a crazy dumb thing to do, but OP seems like a good guy who is expecting the best out of folks and giving them the benefit of the doubt.
I know people who are very sharp and have success who are almost delusional about things working out in their favor. Maybe OP is that person.

How'd it go? Any fireworks?

Yes the easy answer is to just fire the guy, but I'm concerned at how he will handle it. He's apparently mentally unwell and I'd like to mitigate the chances of any volatile reaction
The various karate trophies/awards/photos/etc decorating your office for him to see should minimize the risk of him committing any acts of violence.
You do have lots of championship karate paraphernalia in your office, don’t you?

Attorneys make a living off of crazy people and business owners not being tidy. But do as you want

He did, now he is hanging by his feet in the storeroom. Fake med student has now taken over his life and running the show.

Is his name Kevin, by chance?
We need a proof of life post from the OP.
