Lol. You can’t carve out 3 hours to complete this?

You obviously don’t want this that much at all.

I'm sure he can carve out 3 hours to complete this. But, is he going to carve out 3 hours to complete this only to be ghosted by the potential employer and feel like a fool for doing so?

That's a real concern.

Also really sold me on a "family" type of company.

BIG RED FLAGS
Every company I've worked for that passed off this line of b.s. has turned into being an awful place to work.

Computer Literacy

Underrated requirement. If you're traveling they're gonna want you to work with a computer for communications, billing, etc.

We get people at work that don't know what microsoft excel is and there is no one on site that can help them.

I can see why they want to spend so much time on an applicant. You're gonna be in people's homes.

The first interview I had, the manager said they had over 2000 applicants. So after that interview. I never responded, I assumed I would be passed over. They have been sending me emails weekly asking for my interest to continue with the hiring process.

More red flags than a May Day parade in Havana, my friend. A position with 2k applicants doesn't go out of its way to stay connected with you.

Route their emails to your spam folder and keep looking.

That is ridiculous

Big company hiring practices are a bit over the top and don’t respect people’s time. I got asked like a 12 pt questionnaire the other day as a job reference and asked for specific examples. Like this dude is leaving his current position and I have to replace him why do you think I can give you 30-60 minutes to make sure you want him?

I like the guy so I thoughtfully replied and the hiring manager never even acknowledged receipt.

The company has the right to ask for any pre-employment screening they want. It's expensive to hire people and find out later they don't have the skills to fulfill the job requirements.

It’s also expensive to scare off viable candidates because you treat their time as inconsequential and require huge chunks of it before even giving them the basics of what you are hiring for

This is becoming common in technical industries. Many of our customers contracts require us to provide verified qualified resources. The use of these types of assessments is one of the best ways to ensure someone is not BSing a potential employer. If you want the job you will take it, if you don’t you won’t, pretty simple really

To the OT, Does anyone think this is excessive?

my interview process was three phases that took place over about six weeks, plus an extensive background and security check, they don't do that anymore(thanks lawyers,) but I didn't think that was excessive, you should be able to tread water for three hours, hell, most OTers waste that much time on here before noon everyday

For my current job I had to complete a case study exercise that included technical configuration of the company’s product, and a 45-minute presentation via zoom.

The total time I put into my prep was about 24 hours, and I had interviewed with this company before.

Now, as an employee, I sit in on others’ presentations, and I hear them give similar numbers for hours to prep.

Exactly. I wonder how many people are doing this job across the country. It can’t be that many.

They are using it to weed out the people that don’t want to put in a little effort to go for something they want.
