I’m 60 and need a hip. Anterior seems to be way to go. I’m fairly healthy otherwise but quit exercising as my hip won’t allow it.

What can I expect recovery wise based on time from surgery? My job is challenging to be away from so I really have to plan it out.

Thanks

Hips are very quick recovery. Relatively normal activity in 1-2 weeks

Knees and shoulders not so much

My dad got it done. Said it was the best thing her ever did. I think it was a 2 weeks and he was back to normal

Said he wished he had done it earlier and is now getting the other side done

Anterior or posteriors? I’ve heard possible nerve injury from anterior but quicker recovery

4 weeks post op tomorrow. Basically walking only form of PT, though I've been to 2 sessions in a week, pretty much not worth it. My problem is that i am tempted to do too much since i am doing so well. I think having been active and in good shape pre-op has really helped, but I've lost a ton of muscle tone, mass, and CV conditioning. Hope to be back on golf course in 2-4 weeks. I am almost 70.

The majority of the hip replacements they do now are out patient procedures unless you have comorbidities that make you need to stay in the hospital for a day or 2 .

I’ve had two coworkers get hip replacements in the last year and both said they wish they had not waited so long. One of them plans to get the other hip done as soon as the doctor allows it.

Interesting to hear as well. I have AVN in both hips and the left hip is not as progressed. 52 and currently only having pain if I do something with impact (no more running). But eventually I will need both replaced.

Doc said when is up to me. Basically when the pain is too much.

One of my buds called to start the ball rolling for surgery from a gas station half way to the beach when he was going on vacation. He said he knew it was time when sat in the car for 4 hours and still had 4 hours to go!

Like I posted in the knee replacement thread I had my hip done a year and a half ago. Main thing keep up with your pain meds, that's what they are there for. Don't try and tough it out, then chase it to get it in control. Hardest thing for me was getting on and off the toilet.

Only way to go. If someone says differently, run the frick away.

Close to normal walking 7-10 days, then basically do anything beaides run, etc. It becomes a tolerance thing, more than limited movement

Anterior 1000%. If doc isnt somehow completely capable, seriousky find another doctor. Neeves are an issue in any surgery where a doctor is a moron

I’m 45 and have had both replaced. AVN, first one when I was 28, other one when I was 40. Find a surgeon that does direct anterior approach. Not all of them do.
