Baton Rouge has a ton of money in it. Much more than many realize.

And to compare the two is pretty stupid.

Baton Rouge:

Negatives -- it's not New Orleans

Positives -- it's not New Orleans

Hattiesburg used to be halfway decent until they let Hardy Street turn into Gause Blvd north.

I can't stand seeing this thread on the front page of OT...

This doesn't make sense... If they're "New Orleans Haters"... why are you asking their problems with BR?!?!

Am I missing something or is this poorly worded and making me angry?

Yeah I had a problem with that too -- I think it's supposed to be "Haters in New Orleans", as "haters" is what cool and hip people say

A large part of it is the work ethic between the two cities. Baton Rouge is a government town with government work ethic mentality. The work ethic is why people in New Orleans, Lafayette, & Houma don't like Baton Rouge because they actually work for a living instead of living off the government tit.

So, the more businesses and families, the better a place is?

Generally speaking yes, but it's going to greatly depend on what your criteria for "better" is.

Are you single, 22 and "better" means bars with lots of single people and affordable places to live? Are you 35 with kids and "better" means quality schools and safe neighborhoods? Are you of the more environmental mindset that wants to bicycle or take public transportation everywhere? Are you the type that likes big yards and few ordinances?

As an example, New York is fricking awesome if you are looking for something to do. If you are bored in NYC, you aren't trying. At all. On the other hand, I would never want to live there (too many people crowded too closely together) nor raise kids there (far too impersonal a place).

"Better" is subjective. In the context of this thread though, more families and more businesses = "better" because it creates more potential for more draws to be created than a shrinking population would.

If you had exuded as much energy into trying to understand the point I was making as you did in trying to create some sort of weak "gotcha", I wouldn't have had to explain it to you as if you were 10.
