There's no doubt pensions skew that, but I think it's safe to say it's still going to be a huge problem. A median of $17,000 is just pathetic.

How are they stealing jobs from younger people? Do younger people feel entitled to these jobs? They have just as much right to apply for these jobs as the younger folks do. I'm 43 and invest most of what I make. If I didn't have to travel so much for work I wouldn't mind having an additional job to even invest more. I don't plan on having to working till I am 62 retire and happen to enjoy work.

Baby boomer here. My nest egg is so big, I'll be paying all the taxes for those of you living at mom's house. So suck it.

Me too. I live in a neighborhood - house paid for, no bills other than power and water. Have a loser 26 year old kid paid to cut my grass and trim hedges. Pay my taxes and taxes for at least two young whippersnapper losers. See them all the time saying, "Want to move somewhere I can get a job with my masters in sociology...."

I wouldn't hire one of them if someone funded half of their salary. At least my yard guy never went to college and blew out half of his mind on drugs.

There is no hope for the generation coming after us and even less for the generation coming after them with their spare cell phone stuffed up their arse.

It wont matter. The Chinese will rule the world. We will be a third rate nation, right along side Kenya, soon.

One problem is this same group of people (boomers) as a group, keep voting against their own self interests and those of the next couple of generations.

Here is the biggest example:

The boomers voted in mass for Trump and republicans. They were rewarded with a tax cut that means a lot to corps and the wealthy that will also result in probably $2 trillion more in debt (when interest is taken into account). So now those meager social security payments are or soon will be on the chopping block.

Just dumb that they continue to make their own problems worse, but even shitter they are making the problems worse for future generations. Just keep voting the worst possible people into government that keep blowing up the debt higher and higher. Problem is it probably won't bite them in the arse, but will frick the rest of us hard.

I don't think we are familiar with economic concepts. Yes, they are entitled to apply for those jobs, but how the economy is structured by them having them it strains it. That's not an opinion.

so I guess the other 76% have their shite together?

Can you not read?

quote:

Another thing: While that $163,577 represents the average savings balance among baby boomers nearing retirement, the median savings balance for that age group is just $17,000.

Do you know what “median” means? That means 50% of the baby boomer generation has less than $17k for retirement.

The 24% number is the number of boomers who have 2 jobs to make ends meet.

That means of the other 76%, a tiny few have their retirement in order; the rest don’t and aren’t even working two jobs to make those ends meet.

That’s a big fricking problem for all of us

I'm not Trump's number one fan, but that's exactly what Obama did as well and you only shite on one of them. I also bet you've read exactly zero pages of the new tax code.

no they're not. boomers know their SS is politically untouchable, so they're basically saying "frick everyone else, let's do whatever we want and let the next generation deal with it."

The GAO says 29% of households over 55 have zero retirement assets and no defined benefit plans.

To be clear, retirement assets are considered qualified plans. A bank savings account won't count unless it's an IRA. Among those with retirement savings of some sort, $105k puts you at the 50th percentile.

That age group often have pensions, often multiple pensions, along with social security. Often they also have paid off houses in lieu of big retirement accounts.

Secondly, a better picture would be if you chop off the bottom 10% and top 10% and then take the average, the boomers would look alot better.

Finally, age 56-61 aren't even boomers in my opinion. Boomers are 65+ right now, most of them in their 70's.

The bigger problem for millennials is the fact that corporations are not replacing the retiring boomers. Not that any of you mill's are going to step into a senior director role anyway, but the genX guy who would be qualified to move up would leave a position open more suitable for a millennial to replace.

The fact a 70 year old man takes a job as a walmart greeter has no affect on your ability to get a job.

No, Obama was a proponent of raising taxes. He also cut discretionary spending tremendously. The increase in the debt under him was due to mandatory spending (SS, medicare, Medicaid) and the stimulus package).

Fact is if Trump was not president and it was a democrat, we would not have just added $2 trillion more for my generation (X), and the next, next, etc to pay for.

Wish you could put your money where your mouth is. I've read most of the 185 pages, numerous summaries of it over the past 2 months (as in dozens), spent about 8-10 hours in meetings discussing it, advised several clients on it, and will be giving a presentation on various international provisions and the extremely complex changes to a territorial system as well as the repatriation toll charge in it it to various professionals later in January.

In other words, thanks for your ignorant assumption, now kindly frick off.

Hmmm

Also raising revenue doesn't mean you cut the deficit. If you really do what you said above you're smart enough to know that. We can fundamentally disagree on the affects of things, but thats just dishonest and what's wrong with the country. Disagreement is ok, but lieing or telling "a different truth" (whatever the frick that means) does absolutely no good.

My parents are doing fine. Two paid off houses, two paid off vehicles, paid off boat, no debt, and plenty savings. My mom got bored though and took a part time job. That actually covers their few day to day expenses.
