quote:

It's no secret that Americans are woefully unprepared for retirement, and those inching closer to it by the day are no exception. The average household aged 56 to 61 has just $163,577 set aside for the future

quote:

Another thing: While that $163,577 represents the average savings balance among baby boomers nearing retirement, the median savings balance for that age group is just $17,000.

quote:

Nearly a quarter of boomers, in fact, are currently holding down a second gig to supplement their income and free up more room for savings. If your nest egg isn't where it needs to be, and retirement is rapidly approaching, then it pays to consider putting in some time on top of your regular job. It may be just the thing to salvage your golden years.

So they refuse to retire from their primary job because they have no savings and then they steal jobs from younger people by working a part-time second job?

Maybe young people should try full time jobs instead of just part time Starbucks and uber?

Yeah it's bullshite how much they dominate the market.

Only bit of defense I'll grant them is that they were the first generation to grow up being told social security would provide their retirement.

Don't worry, the government will take care of them. That money is basically endless anyway.

Damn, how irresponsible are these idiots? Ruined the economy and then dump it off on their kids? What a bunch of shite birds.

That generation needs to be purged.

I'd rather see 16-24 year olds who are in school work part time jobs at places like Starbucks.

Do you honestly think everyone who works part time at Starbucks or uber is trying to make a career out of that? Couldn't possibly be a side gig during college or to supplement their other wages... Like someone who isn't established in the workplace might do...unlike boomers who should be set for retirement....

I'm actually a bit surprised by this as I would have thought that of all the generations with money saved up, this would be the one. I wonder if the numbers are skewed a bit because they have defined benefit pensions.

I'm not really a fan of Social Security, but we almost need it because people are too stupid to save.

Anyway, thanks for being my Walmart greeter in your senior years, Mr. Boomer.

So all of you millenials trashing boomers in this position would be okay to trash your boomer parents for being in the same shape? Or are you going to tell me they were smart and prepared for retirement, which means boomers aren't all idiots, just like millenials aren't all lazy self entitled little pricks.

As a 33 yr old manager of one of these folks, I'm . I get to keep a 40 year experienced employee on the payroll rather than go hire and train a 23 year old that will need at least 1-2 years of experience before being cut loose in the field.

Baby boomer here. My nest egg is so big, I'll be paying all the taxes for those of you living at mom's house. So suck it.
