It's weird cause I can search for jobs similar to mine up there and the salaries are comparable to what I make here.

It just costs 4x as much to live

Unfortunately, Californians are beginning to realize this. It seems like every fourth person I meet here in Austin moved here from California

I'll take a 1/5 of all the above for 1/5 the cost.

Yes - it's crazy right now. Just sold my home in the city and moved to Marin. It's not cheap either but certianly less per SF. I have a carriage house on my property - 500sf in Marin that will Rent for $1800/SF/mo. Rental rates are crazy.

That's insane. I thought prices in NYC were pretty bad. Me and GF pay $1800 a month for a 340 sq foot apartment without a/c and washer/dryer here and we're told we got a good deal for the area

Its amazing the difference in the cost of living... Cali may be nice... But they have huge downfalls... Fires everywhere, Earthquake at anytime without warning.....

Uhh I guess? If that's what you're into I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem finding a gay guy to hookup with out there. Although, it would be just as easy to pickup a pretty straight girl who is without the dumbfrick southern religious morality shaming that most here are forced to grow up in and would be down to frick right away like they should instead of having to put so much work into cracking a Christian nutcase

City is awesome, that's why Silicon Valley people are willing to live there and commute.

That's the reason I'm looking to move back down south, prices here are crazy. If not for the prices it would be almost perfect. The weather is amazing pretty much year round, and there is tons to do in and around the Bay Area, not to forgets tons of cute little asain chicks everywhere.

Oakland rents are currently the highest increase in the country right now. The housing here is ridiculous. My rent is super reasonable though....1500 for a 2 bedroom with gated parking. I rented it 5 years ago though...and I make 4-5 times what I made in the south.

That's not bad at all. I pay almost the same for my 2 BR apt in WA state. We were priced out of Sunnyvale in the 80's and San Jose in the 90's. I might have to take a look at rents in the east bay.
