That first pic reminds me of the house my dad grew up in in downtown Chattanooga. It's obviously in the hood now but the house is going for like $375k because of gentrification.

Dallas very similar but less murder.

The premium is for culture. Dallas is affordable because it has none.

I rent in uptown and the house on Zillow goes for over $600k. It’s only because of the area. House could use a $100k upgrade BAD

Just live in Metairie between Bucktown and causeway. Houses are affordable and drive downtown is 15 minutes on the worst traffic days.

New Orleans is a shithole. An expensive shithole but still a shithole.

This is common of course in and around most urban settings but where new Orleans is different, is that it's much like a garden variety 3rd world Carribean island.

A white minority ruling class sequestered in basically two parts of town and a majority of poor blacks living everywhere else.

Two kinds of people live in new Orleans parish. Rich whites and poor blacks. Nothing in the middle.

not many people who work in NOLA want to cross the longest bridge on the planet to get home, or live in places like Metry or Kennbrah.. is what it is.

Mass quantities of people want do this every single day and are glad to do it. The whole of the northshore is built on this principle. As well as kenner and metairie. In fact it all started in those places first.

What people don't want to do is pay grotesque amounts of money to live in one of the few 3rd world cultures that reside inside US borders.

we live in Lakeview and both work within 5 miles of the house. If we both had to commute from the northshore every day it would probably cost us about 900 in gas a month making the commute and paying for school aftercare plus more of our time in a car. That gives us about an extra $180,000 in buying power to not commute, not counting the intangible value of time at home.

The answer was the east. Nice houses and land, but it was decided to turn the east into the hood.

The East should be made into a series of canals.. just way too flood-prone, and that’s saying something in NOLA

Lived in 2 areas of the east most of my life and never flooded once. Lived in mid city when I moved back to N.O and it flooded every damn time it rained.

This is where I live and the houses really arn't all that cheap. Hell, they are bulldozing old houses and building $600,000 houses all over the place around here.

It's a nice place and all, but we still have to send our kids to private school.
