It's some pretty bad representations of what 500k will get you in Orleans Parish as well.

Welcome to the housing costs of the Murder Capital of the U.S.

Chances of getting shot in the face true NOLA style comes at no additional charge.

The two cities you mentioned, Austin and San Fran, have some of the most expensive real estate in the country... $500k can get you more house for the money in most cities (think Houston, Atlanta, Kansas City, ...) than it will in NOLA, and in places that are fairly close to the downtowns of those cities, not necessarily some far flung burb.

Look, i love NOLA, but gosh it’d be great if there were more plentiful options for decent homes than there presently are.. Not sure what the answer is, maybe redevelop some areas of the Westbank closer to the city than English Turn? It’d have to be a massive undertaking because the WB is in bad shape... I dont know, maybe there isn’t a logical way to increase housing options, or i guess it would have been attempted by now.. i feel like there’d be a huge market for it.

Where I’m from $425 would get you a nice 4/5 br, 3 bath, double parking garage with an in ground pool and probably around 3500 sq ft.

Probably could get a bigger house if you really looked

The East.

If house prices continue to go up then someone will attempt it.

No way that is possible.
Well, considering the fact that he was using intended hyperbole as a figure of speech...I'd say his point was not meant to be taken so serious. But I kind of agree with him. I think the non-PC thing to say is that if you want to live in a nice home in New Orleans that's not completely ghetto, you're gonna pay out the fricking arse to live there. And I'm not talking about renting a home.

And by pay out the arse, I'd say over $450,000. A monthly mortgage note for that would be somewhere in the neighborhood of (approximately) $2,000 - $2,500. Depending on how much you put down as down payment. It's doable, but you have to be making 6 figures a year and so does your wife (if you want to be able to afford a nice car, private school, etc.)

Hence, his statement of no middle class.

Look at all the other places they have taken back. Have to admit they are doing more to reclaim communities than people who just sit outside of them and piss and moan.

I said logical, lol

The East should be made into a series of canals.. just way too flood-prone, and that’s saying something in NOLA

My house was featured on their site a few months back as 'what you can get for $XXXXXX

Trust me there were better options then too.

Arent cutting canals part of what started their problems.

Agreed that it has flood potential, but so does most everywhere on the south shore.

I think NOLA likes hyping the 'Look how expensive it is to live here' angle. Trying to make New Orleans seem like a bigger city than it is.

You can absolutely get more house, nicer and larger in Austin for 400+. That's ridiculous.
