Is a large fish tank in the living area trashy, should we discard the tank and replace with another book shelf?

Well kept, clean, 55 gallons, right now just has breeding guppies.

We have a small personal library of roughly 1500 books, recommended methods for keeping them organized and accessible? They are currently on a large wall style shelf. And in several closets.

A lot depends on the aquascaping. If the tank has wood, real plants, neutral color substrate, etc. it would probably look great. If it’s all neon colors, maybe not.

Add a throw pillow. Maybe an ottoman or lamp.

55 gallon traditional rectangular tank. Undergravel filtration system (no waterfall or noise jets needed). All black gravel.

Tank has lots of modern but fake greenery and half of a dozen real stones from various travels abroad. White light and rear bubble bar. Classy volcano that only comes on at night when the moon light comes on with a timer.

I mean you could have one wall of your house backing to a 10k gallon tank that was formatted to be a perfect tropical ecosystem with exotic fish from the south pacific and some on this board would call it trashy.

Put the tank in the library, the books won't mind.

This....If it's a big nice salt water tank, then that's ok. Fresh water, not so much.

I have a 375 that is the main center piece of the living room so yes....HOWEVER, a classy volcano?

You need a little scuba man and an octopus to REALLY make it classy!!

I would think tanks are trashy but was in a house where they had a giant one in a bedroom that ran through a wall and into the bathroom so the fish could swim from room to room. It was actually damn cool.

As far as the books, you need to put them in one room. Having a library with a big easy chair and lamp along with a bottle of booze and a couple of glasses is as anti-trashy as it gets.

You can organize your goosebumps and boxcar children by number.
