UPDATE: Extreme rainfall from #Helene is causing record lake and river levels.
*Lake levels at Watauga Reservoir near Elizabethton, TN, will reach record elevations this weekend. Because the reservoir will be at capacity, we will need to release water into the Watauga River below the dam at rates that will cause near-river flooding.
* High volumes of water on the Pigeon, French Broad and Nolichucky Rivers are causing Douglas Lake levels to rise near capacity. We are now releasing water using all available generating turbines and spilling using the dam's spillway gates. Near river flooding is expected on the French Broad River between Sevierville and the confluence of the Tennessee River, but levels are not expected to reach flood stage in Knoxville.
Stay tuned to credible news sources and the National Weather Service for up-to-date river conditions.

Good Lord. Any update from the people that uploaded that video? I hope that house has a second floor. I don’t know if a second floor would even matter with the force of that water.

Ngl, I'd take my chances in the water or try to get to the roof vs getting in the attic.

Thankful we aren’t dealing with stuff like that but Savannah is dealing with such an incompetent mayor that we may not have power for 7-8 days apparently

Does anyone have good info on Mitchell County in NC? Specifically the Spruce Pine/Little Switzerland area? We can’t get in touch with immediate family there. I am assuming all cell and land lines are out (we know power is). They are on high ground and none of the posted road closures are in their vicinity so I hope that is a good sign.

I texted my SIL and she is in Maryville TN. and her niece is in Rock Hill S.C. It looks like the devastation happened between those two areas... SIL had power blink and her niece didn't lose any power...

I am amazed how fast this system is going. Not even 24 hours and the center is already up by the M-D. Our local news was even commenting about how rare it is to have these high winds warnings here.

I just searched Xwitter for mentions. Looks like they have flooding.

If tweet fails to load, click here. I also saw a couple of posts with people have trouble getting into touch with people they know in town with phone service and lines being down, even for the sheriff's department. I'll look for more.
