Seems that there are much more pressing issues they could be focused on. Its always about money.

A lot of people consdier this a pressing issue in their neighborhoods. STRs have been around for a while and if this was all about the money the City Counci would have tried to do this years ago. Their permitting plan to limit the amount per block and distinguishing people who own thier home (mom and pop) from those that own multiplt units soley to use for STR, was just haulted by the courts.

Wouldn’t poverty, drugs, unemployment, and crime do a lot more to kill a neighborhood than a cluster of Airbnb’s?

Yes and no. It depends on the neighborhood.

It's not an either/or situation.

STRs are transforming good neighborhoods just like bad.

You don’t think a proliferation of STRs creates an environment where those things occur/thrive?

t just needs to be regulated better. They are too stupid to do that though. I don’t think there are enough to crash the housing market but maybe I’m out of touch

There are a massive number of AIRbnb properties in NOLA

This is correct. On a per capita basis, New Orleans is 3rd in the country with 19 Airbnb listings per 1000 residents.

Only the Hawaiian islands and Asheville NC have higher ratios.

There are blocks with more STR than residents… how do you think that would effect your neighborhood? Think you would have a relationship with your neighbors and any sense of community? Think it would be dirtier, louder and less safe?

Which block is that?

Marigny is filled with Airbnbs, just off the top of my head. Irish Channel has a decent amount too

About 4500 according to data. Not all of them are single housing units and not everyone is just going to sell off property. They will just go back to long term rentals like they used to be.

Ah. I never went or stayed over there. Slums. I rarely left uptown.

A recent report from Jane Place Neighborhood Sustainability Initiative — an affordable housing group that has long opposed short-term rentals — found 6,927 New Orleans listings on Airbnb as of Dec. 2022, compared to only about 2,332 active short-term rental licenses.

Best way is to just shut them completely down for a period of time and revamp the whole program.

Should we do this with guns also? how about alcohol? What about free speech?

I would bet a large portion of the STR's in Nola were crappy properties no one was willing to buy due to the ROI of long term tenants not making sense and no one else wanting to either live their or could afford to purchase.

I'm all about restricting STR's in true residential neighborhoods, but generally speaking the areas that are sought out in NOLA for a STR are not true residential R-1 neighborhoods, they are at best mixed use with convenience stores, Grocery, etc. all over the place.

You would be wrong with most of your assumptions.
