Honest question: Do you ever get tired of making smart-arse, juvenile comments and just answer an original post as the original poster intended? This thread is a very simple example. OP is asking about a car, nothing more nothing less. However you find a way to generate 2 posts that contribute absolutely nothing. And you do this in 99% of every thread I've ever seen you in. Wtf is wrong with you? Doesn't it get old keeping up this silly image even if SuperSaint is just an alter?

Nissan Sentra would be an option. They are fairly cheap and drive like a bullet.

If you are looking for something compact, economical but is also genuinely fun to drive check out the Madza 3s. The turbo model will get you less MPG around 32 hwy and the non turbo around 38 hwy.

I've had good luck with volkwagen jettas. Both with stick shifts though, frick a CVT. My diesel one got 50mpg regularly and my current gas one gets over 40 on the highway. Little turbo 4cyl doesn't totally suck to drive compared to a damn prius.
They are very reasonably priced compared to the market and ride/drive great. Very reliable if you keep up with maintenance. I will say that maintenance and repairs on them are expensive. If you can do that stuff yourself it's a major money saver.

Your other option is the V6 version of the Dodge Charger. Don't let the brand fool you - this is an old Mercedes E class chassis whose design has been fairly static over the years. There aren't really any bugs left to work out, and the Chrysler pentastar V6 is actually a very good motor. The Charger is also extremely comfortable for highway cruising - definitely an advantage it has over the Camry. But it has a fuel economy penalty in that it will get 4-5 mpg less than a 4 cylinder Camry. But it does offer more comfort and power as a tradeoff.
My brother (white) swears by the Chargers. He put 200k on his first one and just bought another one. Chrysler uses that same powertrain in the Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, V6 Challenger, and the engine is even an option on the Ram trucks.

They gave my dad a loaner Nissan Kick for thanksgiving that we used on a road trip. Holds about 9 gallons and cost about $30 to fill up. We were getting 415 ish miles on a tank. So somewhere near 50 miles to a gallon.

Honda Accord with the 2.0L turbo.
Drive about 50K per year.
I have the Accord Touring. Wasn't going to buy it because I didn't need all the upgraded stuff over the LX-i, but glad I did. Plus I get a better deal on it.

Y'all need to stop telling people to get cars with CVT's. The shite emoji was specifically developed for the CVT.
Are they fun? No.
But, Honda and Toyota CVTs are much more reliable than Nissan and really aren't a reliability concern at all.
Honda builds their own (great), Toyota outsources theirs from Aisin, I think, and Nissan uses the dreaded Jatco which is why Nissans with CVTs should be avoided.
Hondas and Toyotas with CVTs are fine from a reliability perspective, but still not very fun to drive.

My commute vehicle is a 2016 Ford Focus.
I purchased with 6,900 miles on it in 2018. Old lady owned. Currently 159,000 miles.
I average 35 mpg. I drove from LA to AZ once. I averaged 39.5 mpg on that trip. West Texas the speed limit was 80 mph.

My coworker has a 53-mile commute and has a Chevy Volt and loves it. Can just about make it all the way here on electric alone. Gets 75-100 mpg in general if you keep it charged.

Base model Impreza is dirt cheap. I am well over 100,000 on my 2016 with no mechnical issues yet. She still gets around 34 mpg and handles snow/rain well.

Yeah the Chargers are the opposite of "first year car" problems, if there is such a thing.
They've been using the same powertrains and components for 12+ years now on them, and the actual chassis dates back to the 1990s. A Charger today is what the Crown Victora was in 2009 - old, out of style, not the most efficient.....but very sturdy and comfortable.
I can't say the same for all Chrysler products because a lot of them suck. But the Charger is a very good, comfortable highway cruiser. And it's decently fuel efficient with the 3.6L engine.
