Having sinus surgery, anyone had this?

Chronic sinus congestion, slight deviated septum and chronic nose bleeds.
I’ve put this off for years. Finally gonna get it done.

I had a polyp the size of a grape removed from my sinus cavity a few years ago. I could immediately breathe out of my nose again.
Wonderful! Recovery wasn't too bad. Had to flush with a saline solution twice a day for the next 2 weeks.

My brother had sinus surgery years ago to remove polyps (I believe) that were causing congestion and trouble breathing. It was outpatient, and he was good as new basically after a 24 hour recovery period.

Had surgery to repair a deviated septum in September. Was a breeze. The worst part is the dissolvable packing. Just takes time to all come out. Looks like snot on steroids coming out.

I had a septoplasty about three years ago. Pretty simple procedure. I breathe much better & if I keep my weight down, I don't snore that much.
Before the procedure, I had severe sinus infections, haven't had one since.
Recovery wasn't too bad either.

What kind of chronic sinus congestion did you have? Was it unable to be cleared by having a long hot shower and blowing your nose?

The 4 people i know who had it done. Said extremely painful recovery, and it wasnt worth it. Sinuses either the same or worse for all. All 4 tell everyone who ask dont do it

I did the same surgery. Woke up from surgery in pain and pissed. Was painful for a few days. They leave these big tubes in your nose preventing you from breathing for a few days

I had a deviated septum. They packed both nostrils. Felt like I had a broken nose. Almost came out of the chair when he unpacked my nose.
But I don’t get hardly any sinus infections anymore. Could breathe much better afterwards.

Yeah but you’re scared of surgery and flying in airplanes.

I had a septoplasty done and it was worth it for me. I would get 2-4 sinus infections a year. After, usually 1 or less a year. I can also breathe out of both nostrils.
The pain wasn't to bad for recovery. Most annoying part was sleeping upright for a few days and washing out the nose.

I had septoplasty done in fall 2017, and the recovery was the most miserable thing I’ve ever experienced.
It was very worth it though

The pain wasn’t that bad, but the internal swelling made it feel as if someone laid concrete in my head - absolutely no air was able to pass through my nostrils; this went on for a week.
For almost two weeks there was a bloody, mucous discharge at night when I slept.
Mine was done several years ago; I’d do it again as I went from having ~ 2 sinus infections/year to 0.
Hope yours goes well.

Mine was actual gauze and it is amazing how many yards of that stuff the can put up there, like a magic trick when they pull it out.

When did they have it? I believe it used to be somewhat difficult surgery, with modern techniques, much less so.
I had it in the mid 2000s and it was very straightforward. Pain was minimal and the recovery was quick.
The dissolving gauze didn’t dissolve though and I ended up going back to the doctor to have them remove it.
It looked like a bloody golf ball coming out.
But if I had to, I would do it again without reservation.
On a related note, I saw a TMJ specialist recently who put me in a palate expander. He noted that my jaws were too narrow and underdeveloped, which in turn made breathing much more difficult.
My airways is half the size it should be, and the roof of my mouth is too high, which reduces the amount of airspace in my nose, and makes breathing more difficult.
He said that many sinus cases stem from these structural issues.
I’ve been in the expander and I can now breathe from both nostrils reliably. That wasn’t true before.

I had a balloon sinuplasty in 2011. Septum was deviated 70% to the right and I had my ethmoid, maxillary and frontal sinuses root-rootered to remove extra tissue. They’ll either pack your nostrils after or irrigate and let em drain over a few days. You’ll also feel like you have a sinus infection for 6-8 weeks which sucks but I’ve had one sinus infection since then when I used to get 3-4 per year.

You will feel like a million bucks.

I'm also considering this. How about some Dr names, good and bad. Around Baton Rouge.

Try getting your tonsils out as an adult. I had a septoplasty in January of last year and my tonsils removed in December. Tonsils were WAAAAY worse, mainly because I was bombarded by Popeye’s chicken sandwich commercials about a billion times a day while not able to eat for two weeks.
When they pull your sinus stents out after recovery, it’s a thing to see. Had no idea you could fit something that long in there (that’s what SHE said!). There are plenty of YouTube videos documenting removal.
