The white privileged lady should have just given the 2 youths her SUV instead of placing herself in danger since she has insurance anyway.

Yeah I live here and I usually don't stay out past 11 because we have to get up early with kids. Probably why I haven't had any run ins with bandits (yet).

My kid used to have soccer practice at Daneel Park and we would walk the kids to Dat Dog afterwards. The people thinking this is the hood are either trolling or don’t live near New Orleans.

I can’t figure out if these sorts of points are supposed to make these types of incidents more or less concerning. What do you think?

This incident is obviously appalling and scary as it was on a pretty busy commercial street. The area around there isn’t the hood but it’s definitely pretty mixed. Not a place I would raise a family.

Holy shot that's the same suv that two women used yesterday to try and steal a car uptown but couldn't because it was a standard.
I hope to God that someone caps these black bitches.

That area, as recently as about ten years ago was really really bad. The commercial “rebirth” of Freret St. has helped but it’s trending in the wrong direction of late. There was also a car jacking on Freret and Napoleon at 11:30 am on Sunday.

That part of Freret has come a long way since the 1980s when it was dead, but it is still right on the line of what I consider uptown. A lot of hipsters have moved into the houses around there and improved the neighborhood -- gentrification, to the horror of liberals and progressives.

These guys are targeting white women in SUVs. The woman in this SUV is lucky to be alive -- I still can't believe the perpetrators were able to get a shot so close to her as she was flooring it.

Nola is back to 1980s level crime in uptown. I remember those days. It's all tied to law enforcement and jailing and prosecution. If you cut those things, the bad guys take advantage. Liberals and progressives conveniently ignore this.

People who Fox 8 spoke with in the area said it’s unfortunate, but the crime doesn’t surprise them.

What a said state of affairs when residents consider events like this normal.

Does it really matter how nice the homes are if you are getting shot at in a parking lot?

I think the point is people are excusing it as if it is a bad area.

The problem is, you eventually say this about everywhere a shooting occurs and the entire city turns into a bad area. yet the Nola defenders keep defending it.

What we are saying is that thats not a bad area and crime is out of fricking control. the rebuttal from a noal defender, oh thats a bad area, you shouldnt be picking up food at night.

Nopd knows who they are and has probably arrested them multiple times. The DA’s office keeps sending them back out on the street.

NOPD knows exactly who they are and keep arresting them. Kids get their court appointed attorneys to request bail reduction, new DA refuses to oppose, judges are granting the reduced bail and these kids are getting released. Back on the street, the cycle starts over...some have been arrested 20+ times and will keep going until they kill someone. Local media doesn't track and report and most goes unreported.

NOPD has its issues, but they are doing a good job of arresting the perps. The rest of the system is broken and the local media is too busy pushing nonsense and national stories for clicks to shine a light on it.

Which rolls up to local media being gutted, and local politicians running on national positions because there is no in depth local coverage of the local issues
