Have you noticed "low-key" is evidently Gen Z's "literally"?

Low-key used to mean "subtly" or obscurely" or private/understated, as in:

That girl is low-key good-looking. (Perhaps referring to the "secretary" effect in a lot of movies where the glasses are somewhat obscuring the underlying beauty).

Now, low-key seems to mean "literally", as in:

That girl is low-key good-looking, when looking at a literal model.

Low-key just now seems to mean "I am describing the obvious reality I am seeing that is self-evident to anyone with eyes".

Next thread: using "tough" as a descriptor of something good. "Low-key tough" is particularly irksome.

It hasn’t been easy, but I’ve had to come to accept the truth that my teenage daughter is physically unable to speak more than three words without using the term “low-key.”

When she does, how many of the other words are "like"?

A year ago, I was talking to my pre teen daughter and slipped in a, "no cap." She glared at me, and hasn't used it since.

It’s actually the opposite.

If you say a girl is “low-key hot”, it means that most people are not observing her as being hot (perhaps because of how she dresses), but she, in fact, is hot.

ETA: I’ve never heard anyone use that phrase any other way than this.

One text is like “lolz, ma, tbh you’re low-key larping”

The next one is ‘what are your thoughts on “Simulacra and Simulation” by Baudrillard’

So then I gotta google so I can high key larp
