I stopped reading the politics page. It was making me angry over things I can't control

I enjoy your posts/threads. You’re perfect for the OT. Why do you get banned from time to time though?

Really, I know I should quit the entire internet, but I can't.

Al Gore's invention of the internet was one of the worst moves a human has ever made. In part because nobody can stop using the internet, even though they know they should stop using the internet.

I quit the PT around 2018 for a few reasons.

I've quit the OT for a few weeks or month at a time after certain events have happened because this place can become incredibly vitriolic. I don't find consuming rage all day to be healthy.

My posting has definitely decreased in the last few years. This place is less fun and more angry these days.

No. Wanting to quit implies it's detrimental to work, home life, or mental health. Or maybe boredom, which isn't completely unrelated to mental health. It's normal to have gray days or to be dissatisfied with the familiar... or to get agitated when someone shitposts in reply to your joke velociraptor thread *wink*... but I haven't had any systemic frustration, felt addicted, or found anyplace I prefer.

In my case, it probably helps that I'm a little known, low volume poster. Still, l do waste too much time reading / lurking some days. If I have an annoyance, it's that I'll see something that genuinely interests me and I want to reply, but am short on time, bookmark it, have the thought bouncing around my head all day, then the thought dissipates before I get around to replying. And sometimes I'm long-winded (as I am here). Other than that, I have no regrets. Aside from posting corny puns/jokes, my persona here is usually sincere. I don't say anything here that would embarrass me IRL.

Why are you still here?

I haven't lived in LA for a long time, and found this place around 2003 trying to keep up with LSU football. But beyond football, the combo of personalities, humor, and the uncanny ability of this place (between the OT and political board) to be an efficient news aggregator that also fleshes out the likely angles of what's happening before news stories get much airtime has made it far more entertaining and informative than anywhere else I visit. Even my X feed doesn't have the breadth of topics that I see just by surveying thread titles on pg 1 of the OT and poli boards. So this place just works for me.

The OT of old-- before it fragmented into the music, book, health & fitness and other boards-- may have been a little more stimulating and fast moving and was never stale, but some interesting topics got bumped out of sight to pg 2 too rapidly sometimes.
