My friend did when I was in the car with him. The guy is just way too much of a Good Samaritan for his own good. Some guy was waiting out a restaurant and wanting a lift back to his house. My friend agreed despite some mild protests from me. The guy was clearly a crackhead and made that clear enough once we dropped him off if we wanted some drugs.

I went off on my friend as soon as we were out of there. Could have gotten both of us killed since he was clearly a deranged individual and were dropping him off in a dangerous neighborhood.

Yes and it was not rewarding as I feel he was not properly grateful

The day I got my driver's license at 16, I was driving around, and I was going down a road then decided I needed to turn around. I turned left onto a road, intending to turn all the way around, but I saw a guy sticking his thumb out, so I picked him up and drove him a few hundred yards... to the old folks' home. (I had accidentally turned on to private property.)

Op is correct.

I picked up a guy in rural Kentucky that went on and on in his corn pone accent how he had just killed his father.

My most recent flirt with death and dismemberment was a woman hitchhiker who was short and good looking.
My recipe for trouble.
Picked her up. Took her home.
Yes. I did. Recreations complicated by the bowie knife.

My buddy's car broke down in Nashville while he was on his way to Chattanooga. He decided to hitchhike kind of as a joke I guess. He got picked up by this chick and her gay friend. They were driving through to Atlanta from Nashville and dropped him off in Chattanooga. She was smoking hot. He ended up dating her for about 6 months. She came to Chatt and hung out with us a few times. Cool chick. Tried to sell me Advocare though and tell me about "nutrient extraction." I lit her arse up telling her what kind of nonsense that was. She got pissed.

When I was a sophomore at LSU, pre-cellphones, I was driving through OK and broke down 20 miles outside Autry, OK. Named for Gene Autry BTW. Started walking and a guy in a no shite 70’s faded paint panel work van pulled over (serial killer van straight out of the movies). I got in against my better judgment and first thing I see is he has a giant sheathed Bowie knife sitting on the engine cowling between the seats. Meanwhile, I have my deer skinning knife in my right hand between my leg and the door. We looked sideways at each other for 20 miles each thinking the other was a serial killer and then he dropped me at the small town diner and went on his way.

When I was moving to Lafayette we picked up a fellow in Amelia. He was some kind of glad because a huge black thunderstorm was just starting to drop rain on him. Called hisself “Ears”. He helped us unload all of the furniture then I brought him up the road to his Mom’s house. This was in August. That Christmas he brought us some pralines that his Mom made. Good guy.

When I owned my truck, I picked up several hitchhikers if they were willing to ride in the back.

Now that I'm back in a car, I haven't and probably won't.

I've done it several times in the past when I was down and out. I used to like to hear their stories on how they ended up becoming a drifter to make me feel better about myself.

Not exactly hitch hikers, but I've picked up two different women.

One was the wee hours of the morning and I was on my way to work. I was stopped at a light and she came running into the street. I thought someone was chasing her or something and let her in. She said she needed a ride to her car "right up the road." The car kept getting farther away so I made her get her arse out in a grocery store parking lot. Pretty sure she was a prostitute.

Second time was similar, but I was on my way home from work in the middle of the night. Woman flagged me down in an intersection. I thought something was bad wrong again, but she just asked for a ride. Apparently her and her man had a fight and he left her. Drove her home to the projects.

Once. On St Charles avenue, it was a dad and his kid (I believe wearing Kentucky stuff?) who were trying to quickly get to a final four game at the blender. He gave me 20 bucks for a 5 minute drive. I was heading that way anyway so it was fine.

My freshman year in college I was driving down highland and saw a young black woman (early twenties) and 5 kids, the oldest being around 6 and youngest was newborn, I passed them up but turned around thinking they could use a ride. She asked me to bring her to a shelter downtown. I gave the kids a basketball I had in the backseat with the hope one day one of them becomes the next Lebron. I felt like that gave me some good karma, but my mom was pissed when i told her about it.

I was in Montgomery once with my guitar. A guy pulled up in a Cadillac, ended up being Hank. He kept telling me the same shite over and over about singing the blues, bending strings, what a goober.

Lived in Crested Butte, CO for a few years, would pick up hitchhikers between Gunnison and Crested Butte, but not outside of that boundary. There were alot of nice locals that would go back and forth regularly between the two by hitchiking. Had to do it a couple of times myself when I would leave my car in Gunnison to get worked on, etc.

Same here. I'll only go to locations I am familiar with. If the area is shady I'll tell them where I will drop them off at
