Yes.

A few years back. Lucky enough to find another job.

I couldn't say I didn't see it coming. But, I waited it out anyway.
I'd suggest that if anyone is in a position where layoffs may be occurring soon, I'd weigh my situation. If you feel you can easily enough find another job, then wait. Perhaps the layoffs never happen.
But if you can jump to somewhere safe and satisfactory, I'd go there.

I was laid off in April of '15 from a certain offshore air carrier. Didn't get a new job until June of '16.

I had other opportunities, but was able to be selective due to selling a house 3 months prior to being let go.

I was laid off twice in five years (2008, 2012), it sucked both times.

Unemployment for a month was about what my mortgage is.

Heard a story about one guy being told he would survive a round of layoffs only to be let go 2 weeks later in a second round.

Had he been let go in the first round, he would have received 3 months severance. The second round did not receive anything

Companies are cold blooded

That is the kind of stuff that causes work place violence.

yep... laid off last year and still trying to recover. don't be afraid to lean on family. assuming you've got decent relatives, if they see you're trying to hustle, they'll help you if they can.

try to start a side biz like landscaping yards or carpentry if you've got the knack for that, you'd be surprised how much that can add up and maybe turn into a full time biz.

also, your local a&m club, texags, alumni center, etc.

Yes. It's not fun, but at the same time you can end up landing into a better situation than you were in before getting laid off.

Long story short, the project I had been working on for about a year was coming to an end. This was in November, December 2008, when the economy was going to shite. Other big projects were coming to an end so a lot of people were only able to get 20-25 hrs a week. People started to assume layoffs were coming, but management assured everyone that it was temporary and that by the beginning of the year there are several big projects that would be starting and that they might have to start actually hiring more people.

About two weeks later they started laying people off. They were telling people it was temporary and that they will be hiring everyone when the projects started. I thought I would be laid off because after finishing the project I was on, I had no work. When the new year started, I was still there, but I went ask my manager about my future. I was told I would be reassigned to a new position that involved working on something related to keeping up with all projects and he told me as long as the company had work (which they would always have some type of work) I would have a job.

That was great news especially at that time. For about 2 months I would go into work with absolutely nothing to do, I couldn't wait to start working in my new position. One day the manager asked if I would go to his office. Finally, I thought I would be getting started in my new position. As I turned the corner, I saw someone from HR in his office. Right away, I knew what was about to happen. When I got in there he started giving me the whole spiel "you have been a great employee for us, but.....". I interrupted as to say "cut the shite" and I asked him "So I am being laid off right? What do yall need me to do". HR handed me some paperwork and the manager started back up with "we hated to do this", but I just rolled out of his office.

I wasn't pissed about being laid off, I thought it was going to happen a few months earlier. I was pissed that the mother fricker told me I was going to be reassigned and that I didn't have to worry about my job, blah blah blah.

27 years in O&G going back to high school days. By some miracle I have survived every layoff including the current one which is by far the worst I've ever been through. I'm a bit shocked because I've always been one to challenge the system. I thought I was done for sure this downturn but I somehow got a promotion, raise and made manager for most of continental Africa. I still have land and liquidity just in case.

I personally have not in a real job. Working for turner during the summers during my first stint in college, I did get laid off a few times. But it was meaningless then.

Now If I was laid off I would have mutiple offers within a week. Not bragging but my particular skill set is in extreme demand especially in my area(civil engineering/project managerment).

If all else failed, I am a certified pipe fitter/fire sprinkler fitter with mutiple engineering tech certifications in the fire protection field. Essentially there is no possible way I could be laid off, but for a matter of days. Might have to take a pay cut for a while, but with the way the construction industry and petrochem industry is in LA there is no way I would be laid off for long.

I do worry about my wifes company alot though. She won't be laid off and her office would be the last to close as its the most profitable and she is top 5 in sales in the company, but I could 100% see the company going belly up. I make really good money, but she is the bread winner by far and we would be in a big time bind if she got laid off and would prolly have to pull our kids from private school. I am realitvelyyoung and have prepared more than 99% of people my age, but only so much you can be prepared for when you have 3 boys 6 and under.

I was laid off 3 times within a 6 month period. Twice at one company then again at the next. This was about a year and 3 months ago (the last instance I was laid off)...

Was laid off the 1st time then 2 weeks later my company called me and said they fired my boss in the short time I was gone and asked for me to come back. Then I was laid off 2 months later. Had already been preparing and had another opportunity lined up that was a step up position and money wise. After 3 months I was laid off there as well.

Being laid off the 1st time was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I was thinking to myself that I cant let this happen to me again. It was my fault I wasnt prepared financially and I needed to find a way to make a 2nd and 3rd income. Huge wakeup call. And in the process discovered one of the top 3 passions in my life in investing and trading stocks. It has opened my world. Love it.

I was laid off once. No one saw it coming so it sucked balls having a job one day and not the next. Was able to get work though within a month. At least you have warning. Get your CV in order, put out feelers, and start looking for something better now. Leave on your terms; not theirs. The longer you wait, the more others are jumping ship and taking potential jobs away from you.
