I've never missed a bill but I have had to go without food for a few days and ride a bike for a while. It is a great learning experience...right now I can't imagine how I made ends meet then but my bills now are less than they were then and I have a job that pays grown man money. I went 2 weeks on a big bag of sam's club beef jerky and a couple of nutrias and coons.

Have you ever been broke? (Not counting college)
Yep. I was stupid and had a failing business.

I almost was but then I found out about the Flying J and all of the lonely truckers that go there. Now that was a learning experience.

Yep - Laid off while wife was pregnant for #2.
Found a job but required relocation. She had to quit her job and we had a child soon there after.
For a year we had to make my decent, but not large salary work, and towards the end, we were definitely broke.

Briefly when wife and I separated and she filed for divorce. Not actually broke but assets were frozen and had to dip into cash reserves and borrow money from family until I got my ducks in a row. Then, I made that miserable bitch wish she would have just left instead of trying to destroy me.

I also had a trick called the "Pterodactyl".
Double the price on that one though.

To answer your question, no. I have always been cheap, low risk taker, and never over extended myself. However, i'm 35 with over 1/2 a mil net worth but feel just as poor as I have always felt because I am married with kids. Trying to balance savings and everyday expenses is way different than I had ever imagined. I don't know if I will ever have enough money to feel financially secure because even if I had an extra million added to my net worth today, I will still have to go to work tomorrow as that is not enough money to retire at my age. I also know that the more money I think I have, the more freely I spend it so actually I think it is best that I keep thinking I'm broke so that I won't be broke in the future, which I believe is your point.

I've been pretty close once or twice, but never broke thankfully.

2004 - was broke as can be.
Living paycheck to paycheck, very little savings, medical bills, one income household. Luckily, we had no debt other than house and one car.
It was rough but looking back, those were some times that made me a better person.
