Christmas makes more money than Thanksgiving

It’s not hard to figure out

Today, the express line cashier at Rouses started jabbering about Christmas and how she gives out Christmas cards to her customers and the nice ones give her gift cards (gift card rack next to checkout line). She then gives me a Christmas card and stares at me. W….T….F?

Thanksgiving is the superior holiday in today’s America because it’s the same family gathering and same dinner but there’s no gift bullshite involved.

Thanksgiving isn't a holiday you decorate for, so people get a jump start on their Christmas stuff.

This.

Decorating for Christmas is the biggest pain in the arse of the whole year. Might as well put it up early enough to enjoy looking at it for longer. I haven’t done it yet, but only because we’re hosting TG this year.

Who are the idiots who downvoted this? Its absolutely true. Christmas was commercialized in the 40s. Just like diamonds and the whole "diamonds are a girls best friend" and the idea that men have to spend a certain amount on engagement rings.

The thing with Thanksgiving is that there is no gift buying or people needing to spend that much on anything other than food so its not as commercialized. The longer they keep people in the Christmas spirit, the more they will likely buy. There is very little commercialization of Thanksgiving because there isn't much to gain from people spending time with their families without having to buy them gifts.

Thanksgiving is a day where we shuffle around town to eat too much and deal with family we don’t care to see the rest of the year.
Wrong! Thanksgiving has become my favorite holiday over time. I love the fall season, and taking time after Halloween to enjoy a slower pace, before things pick up again in December just feels right. We are foodies, so spending the month dreaming over cookbooks, and planning special meals is a perennial pleasure. Replacing our seasonal reminder to cultivate gratitude in favor of the metastasizing frenzy of consumption is a sad, soul-devouring loss.

How in the frick is Thanksgiving a money grab? It’s getting together for a grand meal with people you love.

It’s the greatest damn holiday on the planet.

A concerted effort to push out the white pilgrim holiday by the NWO.
Just as removal of CHRIST from Christmas.

I think one reason people start early now is that they want Christmas to last longer, but most don’t know that Christmas isn’t supposed to end on December 25th… that’s when Christmas starts. The 12 days of Christmas last from December 25th to January 6th, ending with the Feast of the Epiphany. If people celebrated Christmas properly, it would last just as long if you started after Thanksgiving and celebrated into the new year. But as it is now people want to skip Thanksgiving and take their decorations down on December 26th.

It's one of the worst parts about social media culture. It's insane to me how Thanksgiving is basically a dead holiday and Christmas has grown to such an insanely absurd season.

Something I agree with you on.

I don't think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving. Its probably my favorite holiday.

Same and same! It's the definition of peaceful and cozy. Kids are out of school, and you get to catch up with friends and relatives that you may not see all year. No pressure to live up to expectations. Just cooking up a ton of food and hanging with your people.

And the exciting part of Christmas is Advent - waiting - for Jesus to be born. To me the waiting is part of the excitement and Thanksgiving is the tailgate before the big game lol. People need to sloooooowwww their lives down.

For me there's nothing better in the whole world than staying up a little late on Wednesday before Thanksgiving helping my wife prepare food, getting up early and going for a long arse walk, turning on the Macy's parade and getting a fire going and just getting things ready for family to come over followed by playing ball with my son after lunch and posting up on the couch after everyone leaves .

This year we have a place in dahlonega on the square from fri-sun and we're taking the dogs and going to experience the tree lighting and other Hallmark nonsense after Thanksgiving and stay as far away from the black Friday madness at possible.

Call me crazy but I think this is going to be the best Thanksgiving week ever for us.

Thanksgiving is easily my favorite holiday. Get all the family time and football without the gift giving nonsense that comes with Christmas

Christmas decorations start being sold in stores basically the day after Thanksgiving. The nonstop Hallmark movies have already begun. Thanksgiving is personally my favorite holiday. But for many, they definitely overlook it all together.
