Definitely spend one last night, morning walk, snack time...whatever is your thing. You will feel better about how you ended it. Oh and my wife says don’t forget to smell his paws one last time. Condolences

I had to put my chocolate lab down a week ago. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I still cry like a baby if I sit here and think about it too much. She was the best friend a guy could ever ask for.

Kiss him, love him, tell him how special he is. It will hurt longer than you want it to. A pain like no other. He will thank you for loving him!

These are the hardest threads. Sorry to hear that VA. We don’t deserve our canine friends. They truly are a blessing.

He’s 100 lb dog. We consulted our vet about it but she felt that the stress of the amputation at his advanced age and adjusting to three legs for such a large dog would be too much. This is the fourth Giant Schnauzer we’ve had in the past 31 years (all rescues) and only one made it past 12 years.

It’s just not fair to him at this point. He’s heavily medicated. We have to change his bandages daily and the amount of change is his lower leg in the past two weeks is hard to believe. He’s gotten to the point that despite the medication he’s tearing th bandages off to get at it because it bothers him so much. Keeping him sedated and in a cone just seems cruel to me. I’d rather let him go and remember him running around acting crazy than seeing him laying there in a stupor so I can keep him around for another day or week or month.

Thanks man. That made me smile. It’s become difficult to get him to eat because the antibiotics and pain meds are tearing his stomach up. The past few days I’ve been mixing shredded cheese in with his dry food and he devours it. You’re right. Dogs love cheese.

Ruffas also loves French fries and pizza crust. Tomorrow I’m hitting Wendies and buying him a large order of fries for lunch.

Sorry to hear that. Be sure to return his lifelong devotion to you by staying with him until the end.

If you ever offer to buy me Lunch, I’ll be keeping my head on a swivel.

Chin up, old boy. As shitty as it is, you’re doing right by him.

My condolences to you. I still remember the first dog I had to let go. I was 6. Remember it like it was yesterday. He was my best friend.

You never see threads like this about cats. Because cats are assholes.
