Years ago, when my kids were in daycare, I remember getting pissed when my kids would get bitten by other people’s kids. The shoe’s on the other foot now.

My daughter called me tonight almost in tears, because my grandson is the biter. For the first time in my kids’ lives, I have no advice for her.

He’s about to be kicked from a really good daycare that she had to waitlist to get into. According to the workers, it’s a sharing type thing. If he wants something and another child won’t let him have it, he bites. He bit four kids today.

Does the OT have any advice or wisdom I could give her?

Bite the kid, he will realize it hurts and stop

Allow the teacher to slap the kids hand. They know what to do.

Pop his mouth. It won’t take but a couple times.

I was told that when I was three I bit a kid in daycare, and the “teacher” bit me back. She got fired, but I never bit another kid again. One of the greatest lessons I learned in life.

I'm usually anti hitting a kid in the face. You bite someone... You get popped in the mouth.

My daughter ( who is 5 now and wouldn’t hurt a fly) was the biter when she was 2 in daycare. Lucky for us tho she didn’t bite hard enough to get her kicked out of daycare. But damn it was constant. What was frustrating is that she NEVER did it to us. She grew out of it when she learned to talk.

On the other hand my son who is 2 and speech delayed has never bit or hit anyone in daycare. But he acts an arse to us all the time and he gets his arse popped. We NEVER had to spank our daughter.

TLDR kids are weird and grow out of shite just be consistent and patient.

I did. Was furloughed from Disney (was an APM) in March, and pulled my toddler from daycare. She was a bitter.

The best thing to do is tell them no as they are about to do it. Once they do it after that, leave the room. They want attention. Once they don’t get it from hitting, they stop. Key is to then redirect it to a healthier way to ask for attention.

Does he have a speech or language impairment?

Just a thought.

It doesn't help if he bitees are what i refer to as “1.2’s“ (i.e. an only child). People with multiple children or larger families have usually been on both sides of conflicts and issues like this and are odten more understsnding.

No but I’m surprised my youngest hasn’t bitten anyone at daycare yet. Dreading the day when that happens bc our first was not a biter.
