I like the concept of walking into the store, grabbing an item off the shelf, scanning/paying for it and leaving. I am usually indifferent about talking to the employee supervising the self check out unless they were somehow of assistance or friendly.

I like the printed and email receipts.

The round up for charity is a serious scam. They donate your money and take a tax break on it. They are robbing your community of money so they can donate money to a a company that donates very little money to anyone. They donate the money in their name not yours.
The self checkout hate I don’t get. Is it because machines are taking your job?
The less us humans have to work the better, right?

I do not want to check myself out…im not an employee of the store…where is the savings for the customer if we have to check ourselves out? Where is it cuz my bill was crazy high just for a bag of ant killer

You’d rather interact with someone who doesn’t want to be there after sitting in a long arse line? It’s that much more enjoyable to you than scanning your basket in 60 seconds and walking out?

The “muh I’m not an employee crowd” is fascinatingly retarded.

Then please……pretty please….explain it to us.

As briefly and simply as possible:

1. There is no"exemption" for charitable contributions. A corporation (in this case a C-corporation - Lowe's) can take a deduction for charitable contributions subject to taxable income limitations (limited to 25% of taxable income for Federal and across the board for States depending on jurisdiction).

2. However, in order to be eligible for said charitable contribution deduction the corresponding revenue needs to be taken into income by the corporation, which would subject said revenue to income taxes should the charitable contribution exceed the taxable income limitation. Therefore, there is a breakeven at best and a serious downside in most cases. (think of it this way, unnecessarily creating income hoping for the best case scenario of breaking even.)

3. If said C-corporation declares this revenue as income, said income in some jurisdictions will be subject to both state and local sales and income taxes.

4. This would be purely Balance Sheet transaction(s) where a payable is created when funds are deposited and the payable relieved when payment to the charity is made. This would not be reported on a tax return, (ie: not income and not a deduction).

Therefore, everything stated and intimated by the post I responded to is factually incorrect.

I always check out at the garden center. Get a cashier and no line.

Self checkout works well, unless you have an oldie in front of you who doesn’t know how to scan shite.

Really hit or miss on the Walmart.

Walmarts issue now is that they’ve started reserving a portion of self checkout lanes for only Walmart+ subscribers.

I love self checkout but I’m not paying to use one

They didnt have a cashier working the register…it all self check

Then go down to the contractors end of the store where the lumber is. There's usually 2 cashiers down there and no self check out.

They are a pain in the arse to buy booze. The attendant has one job and they even put a flashing light on top to get their attention and I still have to wave them over half the time. I'll give you that.

You have to put them on pre alert. If I’m self checking with booze I’m waving them down on my way to the line.

The Lowes around here run only the self checkouts most of the time now and have 2-4 people standing at the self checkout to "make sure you do it right".

I like self checkout because it means I usually don’t have to stand in line. I can get in and get out.

You don’t like it? Go ahead and stand and wait.

I swear, some of you morons would bitch if you won the lottery because you had to show your license.

If you want to use it, use it. I do every time because it’s faster, and if there’s a problem there’s a person standing nearby to help.

If you want to have someone else do it, roll your happy arse down to the line and do it that way.

Don’t just bitch because you’re a miserable excuse for a person and try and make everyone around you miserable too.

Pro tip: shop online and do in store pickup. Then the cashier has to go get your shite for you. And I don’t spend 15 min searching for said item.

I like walking around in stores, especially home improvements stores... Gives me ideas for future projects and such. It's like a toy store to me.

There is no "less work" the hours just get shifted to other areas, like online pickup. People that hate self checkout just don't understand how these places function, and how much more efficient self checkout is.
