Sorry to hear that bro. Hope you beat it. Idiots on here don't realize that most people's lives don't revolve around some basketball player dying and that people have their own battles and problems in life to deal with..

I’ve been irrationally pissed off that all we’re hearing about is Kobe when 8 other fricking people died in that crash. I can’t imagine what the families of the others are going through having to see this shite constantly all over tv, social media, etc.

Indeed they have.

I’m just tired of seeing/hearing some random shite bag on tv talking about how Kobe meant so much to them.

that’s damn near the dumbest shite i’ve ever heard. you don’t have to meet someone personally to feel the impact they made in this world.

For me this is a stark reminder that you really never know when or how the Lord will call you home. Better get right with Him before your last breath. All the wealth, status, fame, accomplishments and good works mean nothing to an eternal God. The only thing that matters is if you know Him and are able to spend eternity with Him in heaven.

No, I couldn’t stand the guy so it hadn’t affected me at all.

No. Almost losing my 15 yo son to an AVM changed my life last summer.

Seems like ever since I heard the news, nothing seems that important. Debating medial sports stories, controversies, etc...bitching about other drivers on the road, trying to focus on a TV show, trolling or being trolled on TD....

Why would any of that ever have seemed important? It shouldn’t feel important because it is not important.

No, and I get the fascination associated with the death of celebrities and superstars, and Kobe might have been a great guy in person, but ultimately, Kobe was another soul passing into eternity which happens to numerous others every second of every day.
There are others who die who’s names will never be mentioned who did more for society or their communities and they never get any notoriety.

Exactly

Is it just me, or do I remember Kobe not being the most popular superstar? I don't remember him as this beloved figure that all this ersatz grief would lead you to believe. Most NBA fans sided with Shaq in their feud. The rape allegation (which I think was complete BS) didn't enhance his popularity. The refusal to score in a deciding game. He had somewhat of a prickly personality - certainly wasn't a warm and fuzzy guy.

I think you hit the nail on the head - competitive grieving.
