I have a real job in the private sector, so no.

More likely you'll ghost this thread and we'll only hear the sound of silence.
You’re too stupid to try to have a discussion with. Piss off.
Yep like a clock.
No substantive response at all. Just like all the other leftist lemmings.
The last resort of the in over their heads incompetents--personal attacks.
If I'm so stupid, why not answer the question and humiliate me, instead of humiliating yourself?

Yes. We were told we still have to report to work and if we had any approved leave scheduled, it would be cancelled. I've actually had to cancel a vacation in 2013 and eat the cost of a deposit for a cabin. They always tell you that if you take time off during a shutdown, there's always a possibility you won't get paid for the days you don't work. They will back pay me for all hours worked but depending on how long this last and how much overtime I work, it will all be on one check and be heavily taxed. I knew this was a possibility when I took this job and have planned financially but it still sucks having to tap into the old savings envelope only to have them tax the shite out of my back pay.

How about now? Though I doubt it happens.

White House suggests some federal workers may not get back pay after shutdown

The Trump administration is warning federal workers furloughed in the government shutdown that they may not get back pay once the funding impasse ends, which some lawmakers are decrying as illegal.
A memo prepared by the Office of Management and Budget says a 2019 law signed by President Donald Trump guaranteeing retroactive pay after a shutdown did not apply to employees who have been temporarily asked not to report to work.
On Tuesday, Trump told reporters that back pay "depends on who we're talking about" and that some workers "don't deserve to be taken care of".
About 750,000 employees are currently foregoing their regular pay as the shutdown nears the end of its first week.

Damn so its just a free vacation?
I wouldn't consider going without pay a vacation.

Still not affecting me. I am not furloughed. I am still reporting to work daily, so they are legally obligated to pay me.....eventually. Could you imagine the legal shitstorm they would be in if they forced people to come to work and flat out refused to pay them?

Yes, I have had to hear the word Schumer more in the last few days.
I think that's what we should start calling something when somebody really messes something up. Like "he really Schumered it"

travel, family?
No effect yet.
I am still not sure why only 3 of the 47 Senators in the Dem caucus have voted for cloture to just allow a vote on what the House has already passed to just extend current spending until end of November. It also might be down to only 2 of the 47 Dem caucus as King from Maine was talking about backing out of supporting the allowing of a vote in the Senate.
The country just needs 5 or 6 additional Dem Senators (including the liberal/leftist independents), which is only a total of 8 out of the 47 Dem or Dem supporting Senators, to have the 60 votes to end debate and allow a vote in the Senate on house bill to keep the govt funding for two months at the same level it was on September 30th. A shutdown instead just allowing a vote on a bill to continue funding for the next couple of months is the problem which is being caused by 44 or maybe now 45 Dems and only 1 Republican in the Senate.
Besides shutdown this delays work on 2026 budget and work on any renewals for 2026 for the covid based obamacare subsidies passed in 2021 and then only renewed by Dems for 3 years in 2022 (which are not cut from house bill just wanting to fund govt thru around the end of November contrary to Dems’ claims including Kimmel). The Dems pushed those 3 extra years before losing House. The Dems also voted to end these subsidies at the end of 2025 and to allow another vote to extend for 2026 or longer, but now they are using their own vote and autopen in 2022 as their “public” reason to shutdown the government over the end of 2025 funding. This is despite the subsidies still happening now even as govt is shutdown and will continue thru the end of 2025 in the house bill to end shutdown exactly as the Dems voted for in 2022 when they controlled congress and exactly as the Dem Autopen signed into law back in 2022.
The below about requiring 7 didn’t account for Rand Paul currently being a no to cloture.
quote:
Getting the bill through the Senate is another story. Though Republicans also have a majority in the upper chamber, with 53 seats, the legislation requires a 60-vote threshold to advance, making the support of at least seven Democrats necessary.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a South Dakota Republican, has argued that a "clean" extension of government funding would "ensure there is no reason for Democrats to oppose this bill and delay passage." He cited Democrats' demands during previous funding fights that any extension be free of divisive policy measures and current funding levels maintained.
quote:The last sentence should say can’t get the required 60 votes to even just allow a vote on passing anything.
The government has now been shut down since October 1, with no end in sight. While the House has passed a stopgap bill that would fund the government at current levels for seven weeks, the Senate can’t get to the 60 votes necessary to pass anything.

My daughter's bosses(?) decided to declare them all "essential" so they have to work. (I'm sure due to the administration's threats to get rid of NON essential employees) but they aren't allowed to do any kind of real work.
HOWEVER, she had a honeymoon scheduled for 2 weeks in Europe. So....the plan is to declare her NON essential for 2 weeks so she's allowed leave and then back to essential when she gets home. We'll see.

No.
Except my normal disappointment with the bureaucracy is heightened. I don't think I should pay income tax on the days FedGov doesn't work.

Over 4K federal workers hit with shutdown-related layoffs, so far
The Trump administration plans to lay off more than 4,100 federal workers from seven departments in response to the partial government shutdown, according to a court filing submitted Friday.
The administration filing, on behalf of the Office of Management and Budget, came in response to a court order stemming from a lawsuit filed Sept. 30 by the American Federation of Government Employees and other unions challenging the administration’s authority to conduct mass firings during a shutdown.
The document also made clear that additional layoffs, known as reductions-in-force or RIFs, are possible because some agencies have yet to decide whether to conduct layoffs or have made preliminary decisions that are not yet finalized.

My guess is she was hired as a remote employee and when Trump made everyone return to an office she was placed in one that was 80 miles from home.

BNA is even more fricked than normal. Already one of the worst airports lately with the construction and traffic.
Now they are straight cancelling flights due to the ATC shortage
