I had some young neighbors (kids, like 6 and 10, that live across the street) that came over the other day with a piece of paper that they clearly drew on with makers stating their case of raising money for something... It wasnt anything offical either. Their mom was standing in view on her porch I saw. Anyways... I’m not gonna tell the kids no... (beautiful scheme by them). No way I can tell my neighbor youngins no. So I open my wallet and hand them a $5. I didnt read their note completely and have no idea what it’s for, but I was in the middle of cooking dinner...

If it werent my neighbors, I would have had to lie and say I had no money.

It’s stupid. They should just ask for donations if they are going to freeload. Why buy the chocolate?

Let the kids wash cars or mow grass or something to raise their own money to pay for their own expenses.

have a better idea, how about the parents who own the kids pay to support their kids education, sport, dance, etc.

They already are, baw. Trust me.

This is, as they say, “in addition to your fees, you will be expected to...”

I could’ve taken the family to Disney for what I’ve shelled out for dance fees in the last 14 months. And a buddy of mine has a daughter in competition gymnastics. You’d weep if you knew what that cost him.

Maybe they should stop making kids activities so damn expensive?

I’d rather sell WFC candy bars than the crap in the catalogs like wrapping paper, cooking utensils, etc.

They are annoying. I’d rather just give the school money than feel obligated to sell candy to my coworkers on behalf of a kid.

I don't mind at all. The candy is good, it's not a lot of money, and it goes to a good cause.

One time my boss bought someone's entire stash and gave one to everyone in the office.

One of my coworkers knows the guy who runs one of the candy fundraising companies that work with schools. The fund raising company gets 60-70% of the money. This guys wife is always posting pictures of their massive home, latest glamour vacations, ski trips, new luxury vehicles, etc on FB. Even their 8-10 year kids have $18,000 4 wheelers and boats. Makes me wonder how much of the money the school admins are getting as this appears to be a thoroughly corrupt operation.

Meh. I just pull out a lawn chair and have the kids stand on Elysian Fields or Carrolton on their uniforms with buckets.
Pushes the travelers out and they make like $10 per light cycle.

I feel like if it isn't a public school, since they do pay a lot out of their own pocket, then no.

My kids school does the chocolate at the beginning of school, a school store were you shop on the website instead of going to a store, and at the end of the school year yankie candles.

My grandson is in his schools BETA club. They travel and do competitions parish wide. When they place first, they go to the statewide competition. When they place high enough, they can go to the national competition. The school system does not fund these trips. They raise money to help off set the cost. The parents of these kids and teachers dig in their pockets to cover the rest. You don't have to help if you don't want. The candy is something that some people enjoy. I support the children. One day if you have your own you will understand.

Absolutely! Our taxes should cover all school expenses, the fact taxes don't is reflection of our piss poor state government.

The school uses the children to do all the leg work to raise large sums of money w/no associated labor cost. The companies supplying the candy, cake mix, etc. really are getting bang for their buck.
The whole situation sucks.
