Actually comedy is on the incline. Do you see all of the headliner tours going on and podcast that are quite successful?

OP specifically said "real comedy" -- Amy Schumer specials don't count.
My point remains exactly the same

Stand up Comedy has literally never been bigger or more mainstream than it is right now

Stand-up might be the most purely organic form of comedy there is. This take is retarded.

Look at bill burr, Dave Chapelle, and some other big name recent specials

“The whole point about humor, the whole point about comedy, and believe you me I've thought about this, is that all comedy is critical … All humor is critical. If you start to say, ‘We mustn’t; we mustn’t criticize or offend them,” then humor is gone. With humor goes a sense of proportion. And then as far as I’m concerned, you’re living in 1984.”

Have you seen Chapelle and Bill burr’s latest specials? Or heard Louis CK’s new stuff?
Comics are waking up
The difference is that these people have enough clout and capital to say what they want and lower tier comics don't. Comedy, as a whole, is dying rapidly.

You think comics are the ones that greenlight comedy shows and specials, not executives? Who do you think writes the check for this shite?
What is greenlit for marketing by mainstream media companies is not "organic," it is curated by panels to make sure the content is sanitary
Huge name already existing comics like Chappelle can get a pass, but newer comics will not get the green light for content that is too edgy
Hence my original point -- "real" stand up comedy like the op is talking about (edgy stuff that pushes the envelope) is not mainstream, but it exists in other places if you look for it.

There is still good stand up, but you have to be grandfathered in to make offensive jokes
It’s not looking great for tv and very bad for film

Same thing as mainstream music.
ETA:
Is there such thing as mainstream comedy?

Not that I've seen. The last of the greats were guys like Louis CK, Bill Burr, Patrice O'Neal, Daniel Tosh, Anthony Jeselnik, Jeff Ross, Dave Attell, Etc. That was the last wave of good comics. Everybody since then has been pretty much dogshit.
But they're pretty much all still active

Comics are waking up
See i take the OP as someone who turns on SNL remembering how it was funny 20,30,40 years ago and seeing just a bunch of immature liberal snowflakes whining about politics.
Are the real comics starting to make fun of these people? because if so, then you have something.

Just say you have a shite sense of humor and move on

Aren't you the one clicking on and commenting on this thread discussing if real comedy has died?

I wasn't claiming they weren't but I thought the OP was looking for new comics not new comedy. I may have misunderstood.
