Kia makes an excellent car. If I were in the market for a sedan I would get an Optima in a heartbeat. I got a Kia several times when I've rented, and I was more than pleased. Smooth, comfortable ride, and great gas mileage. I can't speak for the Telluride, but as for the quality of Kia itself, big thumbs up from me.

Saw a base model today. Looked like a Kia.

What kind of Chevy did you get duped into buying?

I know the GM of a Kia dealership.
He's moving to a Porsche dealer.
They gave him the option to buy his telluride demo before he left.
He did.
That tells me A LOT.
If a guy making 300k a year would rather buy a kia than drive a free Porsche... Props
Still cant bring myself to do it yet.

He’s not at that magic number yet.
If he made an extra 50k he would turn his nose up at the Kia and be driving a Porsche.

I will never believe that any human on this planet would choose to buy a Kia instead of driving a free Porsche.

Does Kia still do the buy one, get one free deal?

I had a Kia Optima Hybrid for three years as my Government vehicle. Zero issues and I put 34,000 miles on it in those 3 years.

Honda has been coasting along on reputation lately.
Do you mean that they their quality has suffered but they're getting by on reputation? I know my last 3 vehicles have been Honda Accords and I love them. I don't need, want, or can afford an expensive car and I want a car to last 10-12 years. I'm in a 2010 Accord now at 100K, not a single problem. If I totalled it tomorrow, I'd be in the market for a Honda Accord, just not sure what year.
So, if you say that their quality has suffered recently, that's disappointing to me. To be honest, I haven't really paid much attention to any reviews or anything of that nature in the last few years because I have no need to. I plan to drive this one another 3 years or so. On the other hand, my brother bought a 2017 (I think) Accord and hated it. Lots of electrical issues and something to do with the safety automation features that he didn't like. So, maybe you're right. I should probably look into that in case I'm suddenly in the market for a vehicle.

See, this is where my financial strategy is different. To me, you were at the profit part of your good decision and you sold it. So now, You've had a car note for 6 years and I'm assuming another 3-4 to go, at which point you'll do it again. WHy not drive it for 2 years with no note? That's the profit margin. Yes, you have to factor in the loss of value but at least get 2 years with no note to save for the down payment of the next.
Not saying you're wrong, just pointing out where my vehicle strategy is different.

Not speaking for slackster but that is the case. Now they haven't fallen to Chrysler/Jeep/Ram levels by a long shot but they aren't near the top as they perennially had been, Acura has suffered the same issues. The Accord hasn't seen the worst of it but the 2018 redesign has seen another downtick like the 2013 redesign. If I was looking in the mid-sized sedan class and I planned to keep it a long time I would look at the Camry, Legacy and Mazda 6. Mazda has made great strides in reliability but it is probably the least intriguing of the three to drive daily. Then maybe the Optima. The Accord is the most likley to sell a buyer because it may be the best of the bunch if you discount reliability and to underscore the reliability is not BAD just not at the level they were nor at the level of the front runners.

Lol man, what? I've owned three Dodge cars and currently own a Challenger and a Ram with zero issue with either. Quit thinking about late 90s-Early 2000's Chrysler. It isn't that same anymore.
This sad rhetoric is getting old.

LOL man, you are using anecdotes and not statistically valid data. There is no question Chrysler products are more reliable than 20 years ago, the problem for them is everyone else improved as well. They still have very poor reliability compared to other brands. Out of the 28 car brands rated by Consumer Reports, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep are all in the bottom 8. Again it is relative so no they don't fall apart like 1970/80s American cars but they aren't as reliable as the vast majority of makes currently sold in the US.
Note I also discussed how perception drags behind reality in the case of a companies quality/reliability in a previous post, I am aware of it and avoid holding onto perception.

Kia is for poor white trash and non whites that's why you see AUBURN Grads driving em.

I recently parted ways with a 2012 Sorrento. Started using oil, not leaking oil, no drips. Sent in for maintenance and they replaced the oil pan and head gasket. Fast forward a few months and it’s still using oil. This particular model had recalls that could cause the engine to seize up, had sent in for inspection prior to all this and it supposedly passed. Kia had a lifetime warranty on this motor because of this issue.
Sent in again, service manager acknowledged that the car was using oil but they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. But since the engine had no trouble code and hadn’t physically seized, Kia wouldn’t honor the warranty to replace it. His advice to me was to stop adding oil to it and eventually it would start knocking or seize and then they’d have to replace it. So I have a car that is clearly not performing within the manufactures specifications and you want me to run the risk of stranding my wife and kids on the side of the road in a car that could seize up at speed on the hopes that the manufacturer will warrant the replacement of the motor that i stopped doing preventative maintenance on?
We traded it in the next week. I’ll never buy another Kia. Now I know my story is probably isolated, and I’ve been told that the quality has improved dramatically in recent years. But that left a really bad taste in my mouth that I’ll probably never move past. TIFWIW.

Kia and Hyundai have completely flipped their quality perception from 15 years ago. Been an amazing turn around.
I hope the domestics learn this sometime soon.

Yes, but that's across the brand as a whole, not necessarily individual models.
Also, it's all relative. Honda is closer to middle of the road for brand reliability, but they're still better than average. They're simply not on the same tier as Toyota anymore.
However, they make a much better looking car than Toyota IMO. Accord is >>>>>>>>> Camry.

I agree that the Accord looks much better than the Camry by a long shot.
I’ve always considered Honda and Toyota to be on the same playing field in terms of quality and reliability, though. I hadn’t heard until now about Honda falling a bit but I also don’t really look into it much at all.

Had to rent a van for a family trip. Got to the rental facility and was told i have a kia sedona for the week...i was like " you got anything else?" but honestly of all the rental vans we got on other trips....i liked the sedona best. I dont get the hang up over " its a kia" if its a quality interior and ride. Take it and bank the differnce between it and a "higher end" brand.
