Here's your math: let's say you have to choose between a KIA and something else that costs $10,000 more up front. The question isn't what the value of the KIA will be after 60K miles.
Well said. I am an OT poor and have been driving Altimas for a long time. Recently had a Honda sales manager going on and on about my Altima resale value which I don't care about because I keep them for as long as I can stand driving it.
The vehicle he was trying to sell me was 8,000 more than a new Altima. Even with crappy trade in, I would still be better off financially with the Altima.

Kia Telluride really goes to show you how powerful a good marketing campaign can be.
Marketing and...
1. Every owner here has had zero issues or only one minor issue with theirs.
2. Every person here that has driven one seemed to like it.
3. All the major reporting agencies show Kia high on the reliability scale.
4. The Telluride comes in at a very aggressive price point and has a comprehensive list of standard features.
5. Kia has the best bumper to bumper warranty and the best power train warranty in the market.
6. Kia dealer service and warranty repair seems to be top notch.
7. The Telluride is a damn good looking vehicle.

Whoever designed that thing deserves a raise because everyone is talking about it.
It's amazing some of the shitty-looking vehicles major brands put out. I don't understand how billion-dollar companies can suck so bad at designing attractive vehicles. There's a Telluride in my work parking lot that catches my eye every day. For all I know, the interior might be made of burlap sacks and the engine might be a Briggs and Stratton, but it does look good.

You don’t believe in markets?
Of course I do. I also understand how much perception drives markets.

ETA: what is reliability? Why would someone care about it? What they are concerned with is cost to own, and resale value is the most predictable variable in that equation.
What? This makes no sense.
Cost to own going forward is predicated on PAST reliability, among other things. It's why resale value is a poor indicator of true reliability.
For example, Toyota Tacomas get poor marks in reliability (of late), but they consistently rank near the top of resale values in the truck segment.

My brother sells Kia's. He got to go to Aruba a month ago to the Kia elite sales get together. He is top 50 nationally in New Kia sales. Has been for almost 5 years. He makes 150k+ per year.
So, selling Kia's aint a bad life.
They cannot keep Tellurides in stock. They sell as soon as they come off the truck. They have a list of people wanting them. We had folks get into a bit of a yelling match on the showroom over one a couple weeks ago.

Not sure why other brands don't take a cue from Kia, Hyundai (Genesis), and even Mazda.
My wife drives a new Mazda CX-5 and it's badass. Really luxurious vehicle and fun to drive. And looks good.

Designed by Asians and made in America. What’s not to like?

Then get her the palisade. It’s the exact same vehicle
The window trim on the Palisade is terrible.

The car just came out a couple of months ago.
I was referring to Kia as a brand. This thread is filled with Kia owners that like their vehicle and report only minor issues but hey, way to try and dismiss the bigger point.

Lol at this. A poor indicator? What would you consider a good indicator? Is “poor” really the word you want to use here?
In terms of free and available information, used car prices are a pretty good place to start.

Of course I do. I also understand how much perception drives markets.
It doesn’t seem you really do. Markets are based on information, not perception. Short term price fluctuation may be influenced by perception, but long terms trends matter. A stock doesn’t just continue to go up in price year after year because people perceive it to be a good company. They need to be able to show earnings, obtain contracts or make good investments. A neighborhood doesn’t just have rising home prices because people heard from their friends it is a good neighborhood. It is because that neighborhood offers something tangible that others don’t.
The used car market has millions of transactions every single year. The reasons people may buy and sell will vary, but at the end of the day, that price has to be based on something. At some point perception is based on reality.

And how is it’s reliability relative to other trucks in that segment?
I have never seen any sort of reliability list or score that excludes or gives bad marks to the Tacoma, so not sure what you are looking at.
Go look at used car prices, then go look at the percent of those cars still on the road after 10, 15, 20 years. There is certainly a correlation there that I just don’t know see how you could argue with.

See, this is where my financial strategy is different. To me, you were at the profit part of your good decision and you sold it. So now, You've had a car note for 6 years and I'm assuming another 3-4 to go, at which point you'll do it again. WHy not drive it for 2 years with no note? That's the profit margin. Yes, you have to factor in the loss of value but at least get 2 years with no note to save for the down payment of the next.
Not saying you're wrong, just pointing out where my vehicle strategy is different.
My wife wants new cars. I want to limit debt and low notes. Marriage is about compromising between those two wants to find a balance.
The former make her feel safe and secure about driving (warranty, etc). The latter make me feel secure financially. The Optima is the perfect compromise.
I get that your mileage may vary. I get that a new car note isn't smart. But I like being married and I like not p!ssing my wife off and having her resent me. Whether based on rational, logical reasons or not.
Again...I feel like this is the perfect balance between Happy wife and me for a Happy life.

I may have missed what you were saying but you say you will not chose a Kia again because their motor has a lifetime warranty but used oil?

My SIL and husband just bought one in May. They love it, said they drove Tahoe and Highlander, and even Armada. But the Telluride had the best look of them all, plus was cheaper than all (by a good bit), not to mention the vehicle comes with 10 year/100k powertrain and 5 years/60k miles bumper to bumper (so saved them even more not having to purchase an extended warranty). Qualify of components and ride is awesome (they said and i got a chance to drive). My wife wants one now, so thought would pass some feedback to board

I bought one a few weeks ago. I’ve been stopped a few times in the parking lot by people asking questions. As I’ve told them, I really enjoy this auto as compared to my previous SUVs. I think they knocked it out the park with this SUV.

On our 2nd Sorrento. Love it, but am ordering a Telluride shortly...90-120 day arrival.
Have NEVER had an issue. Kia offers ALL the bells and whistles of a European import for at least a 1/3rd less sticker. As long as they keep putting out great cars we plan to stick with the brand for a while.
