Ours was at 88k. I will NEVER buy another vehicle from them. It's a known issue that should be a recall.

Well shite. I bought one of those a few months ago. No issues yet, but of course the problems won't arise until the warranty expires

Start saving. You’re gonna need about $5500-$6K for a replacement trans based OME. I too will be avoiding GM products going forward.

GM had issues with the 8 speed in the beginning, but they are pretty solid now. 10 speed same thing.

The LT1 with 8 or 10 speed is becoming a very popular swap choice for people wanting engine upgrades in older cars.

Last week I spent $8,600 on a new transmission and a couple other things on my 2017 Silverado Z71 Offroad 4x4. Talk about a kick in the dick to start the year out.

I have the 6L in my 2018 Silverado. Had a by-pass valve put on to, well, by-pass the trans thermostat. Fluid never gets above 145, was running in the 185-195 range.

Supposedly yes.

But they also quietly redesigned it for the 2023 Colorado. As if they don’t want to admit the last one shifted rough and was pissing people off.

Until recently I would have stayed away from the Ford 10 speeds and the GM 8 speeds. But I think both are sorted by now.

How much does the rebuild cost? I put my truck in reverse the other day and it shifted so hard my wife thought I backed into a tree. 65,000 miles on a 2018 sierra. I see one in my future…

Most of my rough shifts seem to happen when the truck sits for a week or so or it’s very cold outside and first starts.

They had already redesigned it when they figured out they could just use a different transmission fluid to keep the water out.

It took them that long to figure it out.

We had the 8speed with the problem, and it was 100% fixed with a flush and the new fluid.

But they had already done multiple flushes over 4+ years where they just replaced it with more of the original fluid, up until the new fluid was available.

As long as you kept getting the old fluid, water would keep infiltrating.

Which is one reason I suspect some people don't think it's fixed.

I had a 19 Ram Bighorn North Edition.
Had it leveled with 34” Cooper ATs.
Was a sweet truck, but I sold it due to it being a 6cyl. Wish I had it back.

RAM is a nicer, more reliable truck right now. Hands down.

No, the RAM gas engines have several known issues. The Hemi's have had problem since they first came out, from toner rings to valvetrain parts. Most recent serious issue involves cams with improper heat treatment, there's no fix except replacing cams and lifters before a problem is known. Which is pretty much impossible since nobody takes apart a running engine. Ford, GM, and RAM have had issues with valvetrain and MDS/AFM setup for years.

I was in the market for a late model used truck and really like the 2019sh Sierra. However, I was warned away by multiple folks due to transmission problems.

Man….save yourself some time & money & just buy a good late model Toyota Tundra.

Wife's 2020 Silverado with the 8 speed just came out the shop this week. Shuddering and gear hunting. 24,000 miles and the torque had to be replaced.

Funny side note, two weeks ago my Altima cvt starting giving trouble at 111,000 miles. Nissan agreed to cover 50% of the replacement setting me back only $2,427.00.

I sadly have more faith in a Nissan cvt than a GM truck transmission.

Same thing for me in 2022. ‘17 Yukon 4x4 rebuilt transmission. Couple years before that had the condenser a/c problem.

Other than that still a great truck!

They put shitty fluid in the 8 speed for like 3 years. Then didn’t bother recalling it.

It’s fixed. But frick them for not recalling it.
