This. That stuff on Burbank by Brec is going to cause everything north of it to flood.

They’ve built several new developments in areas right by Jones Creek that flooded horribly. I don’t see how those will help.

How much help would improved drainage do with an event like the 2016 flood?

Well the 6 foot tall and several miles long concrete wall without gutters on I-12 doesn’t really help at all

So many luncheons were had discussing the best next step. Turns out the next best step was another luncheon.

Comite diversion canal?

It’s a federal project, and not complete.

Well, they've let all the weeds grow to never before seen heights, in all the silted in ditches and drainages, so there's that.

The weed/silt policy is designed to stop inner city water from flowing out into the suburbs and thus lower the water level on the Amite River. Haven’t you noticed?

Only something federal with comite/amite river basins would have helped for 2016......

Of course, broomie filed suit against St. George and changed a few things. Poof, no flood.

Lively Bayou flooded bigtime from what I heard. OP stated it correctly. 20-30 inches of rainfall in 72 hours is going to flood communities. I have studied weather records for BR for 42 years and I never saw anything close to those massive amounts of rainfall.

I always thought it would be cool to form a volunteer group to go poke holes through those concrete barricades. It was basically a dam during the flood that not only caused water to get a smidge higher but also created dangerous currents for rescue personnel to cross under the overpasses because water was moving so fast there.

I have thought the same thing. Why have some baws with hammer drills not gone out there and knocked that out.

Nothing can be done to stop something like 2016. It's like saying "why doesn't New Orleans do something to stop a category 5 hurricane?" There are a lot of minor improvements to help with 25, 50, or 100 year storms. Not one like 2016.

The water backflowed from the Amite. I watched it flowing backwards. If the Amite cannot hold the water, the water cannot drain. So working on drainage will do nothing if it has nowhere to drain to. Unless there’s a project like the Comite diversion which can help the Amite.
