I would lose my job if I confronted someone publicly like that regarding the fire service. No reason for "stolen valor" in the fire service and I doubt it even exists, but if it did, and I berated someone for it and recorded it, I'd be canned.

Once, but not in the way you think.

About 12 years ago some a-hole was circulating his website to "bring attention to the meaningless lives lost in Iraq and Afghanistan". He posted Aggies' names on texags and just so happened to post the name of one of my classmates who didn't die in Iraq (he died 3 months after returning when the helicopter he was in struck power lines in bad weather). I told him in no uncertain terms that my next phone call was going to be to his widow and to expect charges to be filed.

The website shut down an hour later.

Truth is most of these people have some form of mental illness

What bothers me, are the veterans who have served and will say they are seals or sf on their resume or get compensated for 100% disability and they are ok. Then you find out they served as supply guy or something like that

I have a friend who is a former army vet. He’s an overall nice guy but he wrote this long blog post a few years ago that always sticks with me- Basically, he was at a baseball game and was upset that a civilian was wearing a marines hat, when the man had never served (and also immediately admitted he never served and just wore it to wear it- so it’s not a stolen valor situation). Anyway, the vet was a huge douche bag about it and argued with the guy to take it off. One thing led to another and the vet then took this guys phone and threw it off the balcony towards the field. This was all written from the vet’s perspective and he still came off like the giant douche bag in the situation. It was an interesting read in the sense that I kept saying “holy shite, you’re an a-hole”, while reading it.

I agree with you: He was being a dick.

I'm not sure destroying someone else's property will achieve anything but eventually landing someone in trouble.
