A detox facility would make bank

quote:

The report terms the rate of death from alcoholism among the Navajo "the most alarming" statistics — 26.6 per 100,000 on the Navajo Reservation. In the U.S. as a whole the rate is 2.1 per 100,000. The mortality rate for Navajo infants is 22.1 per 1,000 live births compared to 17.7 for the U.S.

The supreme court recently quietly gave almost half of Oklahoma back to the indians.

Yep, I guess I ignorant, but I didn't realize either while driving through the small part on 40 for more than an hour.

Half the AM stations were news stations only speaking Navajo. The other half were English preachers.

The Navajo music was tight. Mood music with techno beats. I listened to that for more than an hour.

I’ve heard that the Navajo language is impossibly difficult to learn if you aren’t raised speaking it.

I have seen a lot of the Navajo nation in northern AZ. If you want to take an in-depth tour of Monument Valley, you must hire a guide, as you are in the Navajo nation. They have done a much better job than the Hopi nation, distributing the money to the people and building infrastructure.

On a camping trip back in the 80s, stopped at a store on the Navajo nation for some supplies. Was looking for breakfast stuff and asked the clerk if they had any grits. He looked up and said, "What the frick is a grit?" We didn't have any grits for breakfast.

Not entirely true. It’s just about laws. If a member of a tribe breaks the law within these areas, they are handed off to native authorities. Not literally giving land back.

I lived in New Mexico for a while and it was an eye-opening experience. Amazing as far as what talented artisans they are but very sad when you see the rampant alcohol abuse.
Driving through Gallup NM anytime of the day or night is crazy.

They didn’t go quite that far.

The McGirt decision held that the Muscogee (Creek) reservation in eastern Oklahoma had never been disestablished and that a dude who had been convicted in state court of sex crimes against a child, was wrongly prosecuted because he was Native American and the crimes were committed on the Creek reservation. He had to be prosecuted in federal court instead of state court.

Proceed with caution if doing legit “business dealings”. A very good friend of mine got used up, chewed up & spit out once he did their entire business plan, Negotiated MSA’s, set up entire business model & logistics protocol for a tank-truck fracking water transport business up in Minot, North Dakota.

My buddy is a good hearted guy, had trucks, huge office trailer, went all in and trusted the the tribal leader while they ironed out their agreement & they kept delaying that side of it while my buddy put all the pieces of puzzle together, once they learned from him, they turned on him like a rattle snake and nothing he could do about it.

I visited up there & seen some of it go down in front my own eyes. I know you can’t or at least I don’t generalize every race or culture by one experience.

But I also had a screwed up situation at the casino up there with the same tribe (forget the name of tribe in North Dakota)?, but if you get hot on roulette wheel, they will straight up change the “max bet” when you win, and pay you according to the “new max bet” placard they put on the table.

And don’t dare ask questions, it was weird and scary at same time. But you certainly don’t wanna mess with security at a reservation Casino, lol

And this was middle of day & no drinking, so this is just what they do apparently if you start winning at some of these deals.

So I for ONE, don’t have a great feeling about doing business.

But on the other hand, I have my own non-profit and 2 years ago for Christmas, I raised one 18’ trailer full of clothes & furniture, books and coats for kids etc… and shipped it to Oklahoma with a Joint Venture deal with a church out of Alexandria, LA

The stories & pics I seen of the tribe of this thread is HEARTBREAKING.

Legit water, diaper and food lines , those peeps have a real struggle i Feel bad for them, thus I try to help when I can.

Yes. Tried to do a construction project for them once. The political infighting between the chapters is awful.

Never mind the government. I got up and walked out of a meeting with SecInt and the head of BIA when they tried to hold me up on it. Needed another “feasibility study” (had two submitted) by a certain firm on K street.

Between all that you can’t get anything done

We've got some crude pipelines, tank batteries and compressor stations in ND on the reservation. I've only been up there a couple times but it's like a different planet. The homes are run down if you can even call them that. Trailers, broken down boats and cars everywhere. You pay them for entry passes, road passes, lease taxes, everything they can think of. if you're there after dark you better have a damn good reason, people have gone missing on the reservation. They don't mess around with the white devil.
