Twice a week for three years while in college

I went to school with a guy who did that back in the 80's while I was in college. Lived in my dorm, down the hall.

Except that he was AB (neg) and had something weird about his blood on top of that. He got several hundred bucks every time he donated, once or twice a month. He was on some academic scholarship but COULD have paid his way through school. Instead he was just a party animal with the money he made donating. If we ever decided to go to an away game, road trip, etc he always told us to give him a couple of days of notice.

Lost track of him after a year or two. Funny, I haven't thought of that guy probably since the 80's. Thanks for helping dig up the memory.

Yes, twice a week and would net me about $50 a week which was enough to fill up my Honda Civic and buy subway for lunch.

It's 800 over 8-9 donations

Initial appt is a few hours, 1.5-2.5 hours after that.

They are pretty flexible with times.

I'm out of work right now and it helps put money in my pocket. Worth it for just laying there bleeding for 45 mins

In college I did it twice a week almost every week. It was damn near a job for me.

I had a buddy in college who would donate regularly in order to have beer money.

No. I’ve never donated blood and I’m not an organ donor. No one gets any of me.

If I'm in Spokane I'll donate. I'm AB+ so my plasma is good for anyone or universal.

I did it for free during covid, they wanted the anti-bodies of a pure blood.

Have not since. I do donate blood, not looking to get paid.

It's probably got an asterisk next to it (*$800 for the maximum donations in a 12 week period).

There was a thread on this a while back but I’ll post again.
When I was on college I sold plasma twice week to pay for
a used bass boat.
Easy money,I would study during the session.
I got $60/month in those days,my note was $65/month.
Caught a lot of fish out that little boat.

My wife and I did a few years ago. The $800 is your initial bonus over the first couple months. After that it goes down a good bit. They structure it where your first donation of the week is low, and the 2nd is worth more. I would recommend getting the bonus and then stopping for a few weeks/months. They will email you another bonus offer to get you back.

Sold plasma...2005...I was unemployed...kids in college...things really serious in the cash-flow dept. Barely hanging on to the house, etc.

It's how we were able to have Christmas that year...my plasma was put to good use and I was basically reimbursed for my time...in cash. Would do it again if I had to.

I did it in college. For $800 it usually requires 2 times a week for a couple of weeks. It's not bad and your body replenishes way quicker than blood.

Just curious if anyone here has done it. Any pros and cons?

I made about $80/week in college. It was weekly beer budget.

AB- is the universal plasma donor, and plasma is crucial for recovery of severe burn victims. If he had additional antibodies in his blood, then, yeah, I could see where they'd through that much money at him.

Did it one time for my grandpa who asked if i could donate because he was having surgery. Now i have donated blood many times but plasma never again. I must have sat in that chair for 40 mins with that needle in my arm. No going to lie that needle felt like a large nail in my arm after about 30 mins. That's my plasma Donation story.

I plan on going to the local plasma center this Friday. I need whatever extra money I can get these days. I don’t care if it’s on some loaded card. I can always use the $$$ on gas and groceries. I need some side gigs these days if I want to continue to travel in the summers and not break the bank. Not everybody is OT rich.

I did until they found out I was stationed in Europe in the 80s. Something about mad cow and wouldn't take my plasma anymore.

Any AB is; the blood bank found out I was AB+, and refused to let me donate whole blood, insisted on taking the plasma.
