Has anyone had old VHS/camcorder tapes converted to cd/digital format?

I'm looking for a reputable company that would convert old VHS/camcorder (1980s/90s versions) tapes to digital and cd format. I found of lot of old family movies at my Dad's from back then on those tapes but we have no way of watching/preserving them, so I thought it might be a good idea to have them converted. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Try LegacyBox. I sent them four VHS tapes and a boatload of old pictures and they turned it around in about 5-6 weeks.
One VHS tape (my 1994 high school graduation) was apparently bad and didn't transfer, but the others did.
You can choose DVD, thumb drive, or cloud for how they send you the files, and they send back all of your original media.

I used this guy several years back. Located in BTR. Had good prices. Not sure if still open. Well worth it

I’ve also heard the BR guy above is good. A friend used Legacy Box and was very pleased as well.

We had several hundred VHS tapes to convert, far too cost prohibitive to outsource, DIY route was better, found a good quality VHS -> DVD copying machine, then ripped the DVD's to .mkv and sent to siblings who wanted them. We did them in batches and it took a bit.
My MIL must have through herself quite the documentarian, 10's of thousands of printed pics, 100+SD cards and the VHS video tapes mentioned above. Had to send off the 8mm films

I did Legacybox and was very happy with it. Pretty quick turnaround and they put it all on DVD and flash drive for me. Reasonable price.

No, just a lot of my Dad's old tapes...most of the family members in them have passed.

Thanks to all! Plenty of great answers and I will get back with results!

DIY is easy, but takes time. If you don't already have a high quality VCR, send them in to a company.
We bought an $60 VCR off of eBay and did it ourselves with a capture card and OBS, but the VCR quality was arse. Most VCRs worth a shite to do this kind of thing are $300+, at minimum

Damn. I'm leery of shipping these family items off due to the fact that USPS and fedex especially are pure shite. Is there even a reputable shipping company you'd trust with family stuff?

I mean with a name like Legacy box, they’ve got to do those too I would think

My personal experience with LegacyBox...
They send you a sheet of barcode stickers. You put one sticker on each VHS tape (or film reel, or audio tape). Photos you bundle in groups of 25 and put them in zip-loc bags. Attach a barcode sticker to each bag.
You put it all in a box that they send you and send it to them via UPS so you have tracking. Once they receive it you can use their website to track the progress of your items because of the barcode stickers.
When they are done everything is boxed up and sent to you via UPS so you have that tracking.
Personally I trust UPS a bit more than FedEx and a whole lot more than USPS.

When I looked a few years ago it was closer to grand for the right vcr.
I did 8mm film conversion and also vhs.
I found it easier to get great quality with 60 year old film than vhs.
Heard alot of horror stories with legacy.
Either lost tapes or shite quality.
There are a few in the country that use the right vcr for a quality conversion.

I bought an inexpensive vhs to cd recorder and did it myself. I had about 50. It took some time but was easy to do.

Legacy box coverted my old porn collection on to DVDs. 2001 a Face Odyssey came out crystal clear.
