You know that expression, “You never really know a person”? Has there ever been a person in your life where you liked them, thought highly of them, but they said or did something to totally mess up how you viewed them? Where you lost all the respect you had for them? What is your worst example?

I think every person on the planet has multiple examples of this happening.

The better question might be the opposite.

Meaning did someone end up being really solid when you first thought they were a scumbag.

Yes. I am 60 years old. It would be hard to live 60 years and be right about the thousands of people you meet in that length of time. I have had about as many proved to be decent folks as proven to be assholes but that is because my default is to assume everyone is an a-hole....

Yeah, a colleague showed up with a Yankee pedigree and a Yankee land grant school technical PhD and I misjudged the book by its cover.

Mistakes were made on both sides, eventually both of us figured out how to get along with each other and we’re good now (no homo bro).

Turns out he’s an OK dude at heart. Still talks funny.

Yeah. Recently had a girl that I was over the moon for get with someone that was abusive in a previous relationship that we both knew about. I immediately lost all feelings and don't ever care to see her again.

You didn't choke her, Walt. She likes to be choked a little bit.

There are a lot of people I thought were I thought were good and kind-hearted who turned out to be a piece of shite.

Very seldom is there someone I thought was a piece of shite who turned out to be a good person.

Yes.

You can’t judge a book by it’s cover but you can damn well do it once you start reading it.

This is the sorriest of the sorry. New puppy pissing and shitting in the house. Man takes puppy to the woods and shoots it in the head. Tells his daughter that the puppy ran away. Not just cold hearted, but disconnected and stupid enough to tell coworkers what he did.

Yes. I met someone I worked peripherally with and had, for two years, an opinion of him as someone who was an arrogant elitist. Turned out, he had a very low self opinion of himself and to bolster his ego, he had a number of stories that became old and stale as everyone he met he shared those same stories with. He really wanted everyone to like him and would give you the shirt off his back. Good guy but he needs people to love him or he gets depressed.

I've had someone change my opinion of them for the worse, then years later I gave them a second chance, only for them to eventually change my opinion of them to even worse.

Just last week...workmate sort of a loose cannon got overly scolded by Boss. Next day he approaches me about it. I tell him he's got to let it go. It ain't fun but it's right. Following day he tells me he appreciated the chit chat we had. Honestly, I didn't think he had it in him to see it that way but he did. Now, we both have sort of bonded and it's better than it could have been had this not occurred.

Yep….I had a couple of cocky SOB’s at work, who I didn’t trust at all. They were just smart asses and generally disagreeable.

One time we had an emergency situation at work, and when the shite hit thr fan, they both got serious and were key in controlling the crisis. I went to bat for them a couple of times each in the years following.
