Yes, my relative used to work in the St. Landry Parish DA's office. I still had to pay if it was out of parish, just didn't go on my record.

Decades ago I was a broke college kid rolling through Krotz Springs at about 2:00 a.m. going 85 with expired tags and cancelled insurance. Got pulled over and was convinced I was going to jail. Probably would have too, but the cop must have gotten an emergency radio, bc he told me to "wait right here and don't you dare go anywhere" before he sped off down the road.

I did not, in fact, wait right there and got the frick out of dodge with the quickness.

I was speeding and I deserved the ticket I was going way too fast.

I had just got off work on the Saturday of the iron bowl and was in a hurry to make it to a party to watch it.

The cop asked me why I was going so fast. I just said :

“Instead of a ticket Can you just take me to jail? I’m late for my mother in laws birthday party and I can’t tell you how bad I don’t want to go and my wife is already mad at me for being late.”

He just laughed and said “yea i understand…get out of here. Sorry I couldn’t help.”

I was driving 18 wheels in Nebraska. Speed limit 55 and they were real dicks about it. Driving 65 and saw him shoot past going west. I stopped and was standing at the back of the truck, log book and everything in my hands. He stopped behind me, walked up and asked “Do you do this every time.?”

No sir, saw you go by and knew I was caught.

I don’t have the heart to spoil your day. Slow down and be safe.

Yes, sir, thank you. Shook his hand.

Just a little thing I do every time that kinda puts the cop on the backfoot is after getting pulled over i take the keys out and jangle em while looking in the mirror to make sure he sees then I set em on the roof of the truck. I've had all kindsa responses to this from "you a felon?" (im not) to "whyd you do that" and I tell em the same thing every time.

"You've got a thankless job and you never know what youre walking up on so im just letting you know I'm not gonna take off on you"

Its gotten me out of more shite than I can calculate.

I dont surrender firearms however and more than a couple of cops have gotten pissy with me about that. If I was honest when i answered your gun question thats not gonna escalate this bullshite. The guns where it needs to be and if he's in my truck he's where he shouldn't be.

rolling stop through a stop sign

"sir do you know why I pulled you over?"

"didn't come to a complete stop at that stop sign"

"yes sir. Here's a warning, don't do that anymore."

"thanks"

Many years ago, my 69 Chrysler 300 convertible had been at a shop for a long time (the shop, we'll call it Larry's, was notorious for slow turnarounds). My wife and I are coming home from a trip to Dallas. Its raining, and the damn convertible is outside in the rain with the top down. It is around midnight at the time.

So, had my wife drop me off, got the extra key, and started driving home. The convertible had been at the shop so long that the tags and inspection were expired. I had a license that I had not yet renewed, so it was expired. The windshield wipers were inoperative.

So, a cop seems me and pulls me over. After a short initial information check (it was still raining), cop says "why the hell are you driving a car in the rain with the top down with an expired license plate, license, inspection sticker AND no wipers?"

I stammer and say "well, it has been up at Larry's ..."

Cop interrupts me and says "i fully understand, get going."

Sherman, Texas two days before Christmas 1985:

I'm in my car which has an expired tag. I'm at a four way stop about to turn right. On the other side of the stop is a cop signalling to go left. Since I don't want him behind me with an expired tag, I signal for him to go first. He does.

But, he pulls off to the side. I drive by him and he pulls me over. I didn't get a ticket for the expired tag. I got a "courteous driver award" with a gift certificate for a meal at a local restaurant.

Been driving for 18 years and have only got pulled over once and it was back in 2010.
I was late for class at LSUE and was on backroads in rural Acadia parish. I was going 70 in a 55 and got pulled over by a state trooper.
I was nice and respectful with yes sir, no sir and all that.
Trooper was kind of a dick but just doing his job. I deservedly got the ticket.
Luckily my dad’s friend knew somebody high up in APSD and got it turned into a $50 non moving violation. Would’ve been around $300 and gone on record.

I was on my way back to college after visiting family in GA just after Katrina. I passed through some construction and saw an officer had pulled somebody over. I figured I didn't have to slow down since he was already occupied, but he thought otherwise and ran me down. He took a look at my DL, and, after seeing I was from the MSGC, he said he'd done relief work down there. He then told me to slow the hell down and let me go.

One night in college I picked up 5-7 friends from the bars late one night and on the way back my drunk friends convinced me to run over the little campus cross walk signs in the middle of the street with my truck.

Me, as a stupid college freshman of course did it and got pulled over within 15 seconds by LSU PD with three more cars pulling up within minutes.

So I'm shitting my pants because we're underage and have tons of alcohol under the seats with seven people in the cab since it was really cold outside. Long story short, I was very respectful and the officer could tell I was sober, so they let us go with a warning.

Could've gotten a ton of various charges (property damage, reckless driving, etc.) but they let us go. Moral of the story is just be respectful and cooperative and your chances are much better with law enforcement.

Also could've been that they didn't want to deal with all the paperwork lol.

Talked my way out of a few in my life by just being honest and polite, a couple speeding and a couple for inspection stickers/tags. Never gotten out of one in a smaller town though

I stopped habitually speeding once I had children so it's been a while for me

I’ve never “gotten out of a ticket” , I have paid the fine without it going on my driving record. That’s an injustice.

Got pulled over speeding late one night in Highschool. Speed limit jumped up right after a light and the light was on sensors that late so it was staying on green unless someone drove up to cross it.

So everyone speeds up early, but technically still speeding. Town had a curfew which is what the cop was really enforcing.

Now the amusing part. For some reason, my younger brother was obsessed with police and had a police scanner, so right when I got pulled over he came running upstairs telling my parents. It made his year.

Cop called my dad from his car. My dad answered “I know, listening on the scanner, just send him home.” They had a good laugh about messing with me and cop sent me home.

Whatever dude. I called and asked. I plead it down to lesser offense. It's all semantics. I wasn't implying anything special. Just letting others know this is an option.

All 5 of them. Dont lie, show cops respect, be polite and you will see 90% of police are good hearted people.
