I have been to Europe before & was never treated bad after they found out I was American. Of course I didn't go to France though. You should always hold your head high as an American. Europe owes America big time.

This is going to sound harsh but tell her she gets to stay at home while you go to Europe.
At the end of the year I went to The Netherlands, Belgium, Fran’s and England. There is absolutely no doubt I an American, you can tell on sight. People were friendly and most asked questions about America.
The best conversation was with a guy on a train in Belgium. His biggest question was “are there really diners like in the movies where a woman comes by and fills up your coffee and calls you sweetie and darlin”.
Never ever be ashamed of being an American.
At the end of the year I went to The Netherlands, Belgium, Fran’s and England. There is absolutely no doubt I an American, you can tell on sight. People were friendly and most asked questions about America.

I worked in the middle east for 15 years, and occasionally I would identify as Canadian
One trip in particular, had the family in Kenya doing the safari trip, and one night went to the main building to charge camera batteries. While having a drink, this brit guy comes over and sez,,,,,The BBC has a lot of coverage regards you yanks bombing Kadafies tent killing a couple of his grand children. On the way back to the work site in Saudi, we were Canadians a couple times where passports were not shown
