I knew some dudes who would have a 2 or 3 table poker tournament in their apartment there. It felt like the wild west. We'd smoke inside and it was trashy.

I did in the spring of 73.
Nothing unusual that I noticed at the time.
Quiet with good neighbors.

Scruffy lived in that dump across from Walk-on’s.
Is it even still there?

Not El Cid, but I lived in a similar dump in Tigerland and that's also where I met my wife. Going on 44 years married.

They tore some apartments down there and building a 4/5 story apartment complex.

2007 or so at the corner of West Parker and Burbank. Honestly enjoyed living there. Rent was a little over $500 a month for a 1BR, had a pool in the courtyard and could bike into campus every day.
Worst part was people always getting into wrecks at that intersection. Sitting on the couch playing Halo 3 and suddenly screech and bang. Even had a car crash into an apartment wall in the opposite side of the courtyard at one point. Smart move to put up traffic signals.

Girlfriend in college 2002-2003. So spent many nights there. It was fine for what it was. Though I will say it’s best feature is walking distance for game days.

I had a couple of friends there around 2006 that we'd go to their apartment sometimes

I was in Baton Rouge last weekend and drove by El Cid and just laughed. Looks the same as it did in the early to mid 80's.
Somethings never change. Death, taxes and El Cid.

Someone hit the corner of one of them and messed it up bad. Might be repaired now. I’ll be driving by there today and will report back if I remember to do so.
Unfortunately I have to report that El Cid 3 is still not repaired where a car probably slammed into a corner of it by a drunk student going around the curve.
People still live there. Just that a corner of the building is damaged and supported by 2x4s and black plastic sheeting to keep rain out. Stay classy El Cid.

It was an easy walk to campus. Which means no waiting for the bus or fighting for a parking spot.

Briefly lived there with a buddy before my future wife and I found our own place on Alco. Very lateral move but it was closer to work for both of us. Moved to Central after my rather pregnant wife had to hit floor from gunshots.
