As more of these flooding events happen it is becoming quite necessary to heed warnings and be proactive. After my house flooded last year, I will not need to be told to leave by anyone. However, unless you have been through this shite before, you probably won't take it seriously.

Six days ago, it was supposed to dump 40 inches on Austin and SAN Antonio, and 3 inches in Houston. So now we are at 3 of 4 largest cities in the state evacuating. To somewhere.

Tonight may be a long night, but drier air is on the way. It would be irresponsible of me to suggest anything more than that. I'm not an expert in any way.
Current HRRR run suggests the rain will begin pushing east over the next 15 hours.

I keep seeing this argument being made. But evacuating could have been completely voluntary. The roads were empty leading up to the storm. I completely get that a large scale evac may not have been possible, so the govt didn't order it, but that surely didn't make it safe to stay. I just know I would have left, but being from south Louisiana my memory is a bit more fresh and maybe less naive about storm fallout. I also have a baby son.
But hey, I don't want to kick anyone when they are down. I have followed this storm as closely as I would have one that directly affected me. My heart hurts for all the people affected, and would love to help out anyway I can.

I'm about 6 miles west of 99 in cinco. Hope the release doesn't affect me

People are clearly missing the point of this back and forth. Of course just leaving is a option, as always. We are discussing whether the mayor should be blamed for all this because he didn't order a mandatory evacuation. Idiots say he sound be blamed. Regular people say that would have been a disastrous call to make.

Hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure there are quite a few people in the effected areas reading this very thread that are blaming themselves for the unfortunate situation they may be funding themselves in. I haven't seen more than a handful of people in this thread blaming the mayor or government. Yes, the individual absolutely had the opportunity to evacuate, logistically the entire area could not. It's a very unfortunate situation for a lot of people that is only going to get worse.

Or at the very least prepare properly. You should be loaded to capacity with fuel, water non perishable food a gen and some first aid kits minimum.

This is what happened the last time the government told Houston to evacuate for Rita.
People spent 6 hours and moved 2 miles and said frick it. People ran out of gas and had to abandon where they were at. Dozens died just waiting in traffic because emergency personnel could not get to them.
You want people just to leave in a free for all. No fricking thank you.

Yeah the mayor of corpus or Victoria was explaining why he didn't order a mandatory evacuation. Said it causes problems and they were getting a direct hit.

The release won't affect someone west of the reservoir. How close you are to the reservoir to the west and north will determine if you flood from the reservoir rising itself.

I will just say the mayors demeanor was far too casual in the release about evacuation. It may have been a disastrous call, but this is a disaster.
I think the best idea in this type of situation is send people out in waves. Plant the seeds to gtfo Monday or Tuesday when we got a better idea. That way your aren't evacuating the entire "4th biggest city" population when the call has to be made.
But no, I don't blame the mayor, it's a tough call to make. So Much damn rain.
