Not a Mayor Turner fan, but WTF was he supposed to do? He's right about evacuating 6.5 million people being more of a hazard than staying put. There are over a million more people in Houston that there were during Rita and Hwy 290 - one of the three ways out of town - is a 30-mile construction zone with barriers the entire length. It would be a death trap.

Spent the better part of 2 months every weekend helping my brother and several people I worked with repair their homes. Wife made care packages of water and chocolate chip cookies to bring to people. It was pretty awesome to see the way the community rallied around their own and got shite done.

I mean if everyone who has an inch or two of water in their home tries to leave they are going to swamp rescue even more than it already is.

I would have evacuated the areas that flooded just last year. To me that's common sense because you already have a bench mark set and were told it would be just as bad if not worse.

The issue was he contradicted the Gov who said that people need to evacuate... The gov called for evacuation and Turner basically said "Nope, you don't need to do that, not gonna be that bad... don't put stress on roadways"
Well, looks like Gov was right and he was wrong. Egg on his face.
